Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 41: Hagerstown (Host): Cambridge City Lincoln, Centerville, Hagerstown, Northeastern, Union County, Winchester Community.
Breakdown: In Sectional 41, you have a pretty balanced draw. Northeastern, Hagerstown, and Cambridge City Lincoln have done really well this year and look like the best in this Sectional. Northeastern and Cambridge City both received the bye and that will help because the second round matchup won’t be easy. Likely, you will see Centerville and Hagerstown make it out of the first set of games which would make the second round one to see.
Sectional 42: Triton Central (Host): Eastern Hancock, Indianapolis Howe, Irvington Preparatory Academy, Knightstown, Shenandoah, Triton Central.
Breakdown: In Sectional 42, you have a potential rematch sitting on the table with Indianapolis Howe and Shenandoah being put on opposite sides. It was a great matchup last year with the difference in styles. This year, you could see the same thing but possible a different result. Irvington Prep has had a great year going 17-4 but their level of competition makes it a little difficult to see how well they will fair against Shenandoah in the second round even if they get past Eastern Hancock.
Sectional 43: Speedway (Host): Covenant Christian (Indianapolis), Heritage Christian, Indianapolis Broad Ripple, Indianapolis Scecina, Indianapolis Shortridge, Speedway.
Breakdown: In Sectional 43, you have one of the more under-the-radar contenders for the State Championship in Broad Ripple. Scecina is their biggest competition and pitted against them on the opposite side of the bracket. The only other team in the Sectional with double digit wins besides Broad Ripple and Scecina is Heritage Christian with 12. HC has lost to Broad Ripple twice this season but they got a bye game and would likely face Scecina, a team that haven’t played yet. Look for them as a possible contender in the Championship game.
Sectional 44: South Putnam (Host): Cascade, Cloverdale, Monrovia, North Putnam, South Putnam, Southmont.
Breakdown: In Sectional 44, you have one of the more intriguing teams in 2A in Cloverdale. With a pair of backcourt players that can outscore anyone but their depth is the question. And getting out of the Sectional for Cloverdale will be tough as 5 of the 6 teams in the Sectional have double-digit wins. Monrovia and Cascade are having great seasons with 14 wins each. Southmont at 10-10 is the only team in the Sectional to have beaten Cloverdale and they are setup against them in the first round. Could be an interesting first night of games.
