Wednesday was spent at UD Arena to check out Division II District Finals in SOuthwest Ohio. During the evening I watched Cincy based Roger Bacon and Woodward, as well as Dayton based Alter advance to the Regional Semifinals. There were plenty of memorable performances and below are a few of the guys that got it done.

[player_tooltip player_id="1368789" first="Ru" last="Mills"] (2024) Woodward

Mills has cemented himself as a great secondary option for the Bulldogs behind [player_tooltip player_id="616817" first="Paul" last="McMillan IV"]. Mills plays with great pace and takes the contact to the defense. Fantastic athleticism for a sophomore and was on the receiving end of two alley-oops in their win over C-J. Mills has made it known he is one of the best sophomores in the state and could see his role really pick up next season with McMillan graduating.

Ty Brenner (2022) Roger Bacon

Brenner is a multi-sport athlete for the Spartans and showed his versatility for the Spartans in their win over Carroll. Impressed me immediately with his physicality while defending on-ball. Moved well and initiated contact with his body on the perimeter. On the offensive end, he had the quickness to move around with the ball on the perimeter, but was primarily a catch-and-shoot option for Bacon. Brenner’s drive on the defensive end will become an X-Factor as the Spartans prepare for Woodward in the Regional Semifinals.

Jesse Eubanks (2025) Roger Bacon

Eubanks was really good in the win against Carroll. Only a freshman, it is clear when watching him he is a football kid the Spartans use defensively on the basketball court. He moves extremely well for a bigger guy and impressed me with his defense on [player_tooltip player_id="1399903" first="Sean" last="McKitrick"], forcing him to settle for some tough perimeter shots especially in the 2nd half. Possesses great footwork and finesse defensively. I like Eubanks as a long term defensive specialist for the Spartans.

[player_tooltip player_id="1201839" first="Anthony" last="Ruffolo"] (2023) Alter

Alter as a whole looked good in their win against Batavia, but Ruffolo really used the big stage to separate himself as an elite guard in the area. The junior PG read passing lanes and did a great job anticipating the skip passes and getting out in transition. Covered a lot of ground on the defensive end. On the offensive end, Ruffolo shot confidently and consistently which allowed Alter to build off their lead in a win. Ruffolo has benefitted from teams taking away teammates [player_tooltip player_id="967172" first="Ryan" last="Chew"] and [player_tooltip player_id="809602" first="Jacob" last="Conner"] opportunities on the offensive end and become a consistent scoring option for the Knights.

[player_tooltip player_id="1184650" first="Mason" last="Weisbrodt"] (2022) Batavia

Even in a losing effort, Weisbrodt gave us one more strong performance for the Bulldogs on one of the biggest stages for Batavia. At 6-foot-9, he matched up well with Alter’s [player_tooltip player_id="809602" first="Jacob" last="Conner"] and actually got a few early buckets on Conner. Weisbrodt was intentional in squaring and attacking through contact in the paint. His ability to step out and hit the occasional midrange shot makes him even more of an intriguing prospect for the various college coaches watching him in this setting. Weisbrodt is automatic when it comes to rebounds and can dominate the glass when needed.
