From the tip off it was a back and forth game. Hamilton was letting Perry know that they were gonna be with them the whole game. Perry jumped out to a 10-7 lead after the first quarter. The Pumas were led by fab frosh Koa Peat Koa Peat 6'8" | PF Perry | 2025 State #6 Nation AZ with 6 points and 3 rebounds. Hamilton was led by senior guard Quincy Adams Quincy Adams 6'5" | SF Hamilton | 2022 State AZ with 2 points and 4 rebounds.
Adams picked up his 2nd foul early in the 2nd quarter and had to sit. Perry took advantage by extending their lead to 18-9 on back to back 3’s by Cody Williams Cody Williams 6'8" | SF Perry | 2023 State #25 Nation AZ and Kyle Waters Kyle Waters 6'3" | SF Perry | 2022 State AZ . Perry continued to build momentum as evidenced by a beautiful backdoor alley oop to senior big man Dylan Anderson Dylan Anderson 7'0" | C Perry | 2022 State #88 Nation AZ . After checking in momentarily Adams picked up his 3rd foul forcing him to sit the rest of the 1st half. Senior wing Aaron Foote Aaron Foote 6'6" | PF Hamilton | 2022 State AZ hits a three to cut the Perry lead to 6 at halftime.
In the early part of the 3rd quarter Adams hit a 3 and a layup to cut the lead to 28-26 forcing Perry to call a timeout. Perry scored 5 straight at the end of the 3rd to extend the lead to 33-26 heading into the 4th quarter.
A Cody Williams Cody Williams 6'8" | SF Perry | 2023 State #25 Nation AZ floater extended the lead to double digits 37-28 with less than 6 minutes left in the game. Hamilton kept fighting as they always do. Foote hit another 3 pointer to cut the lead to 5 with under 5 minutes left in the game. Hamilton kept applying defensive pressure making the last two minutes of the game a free throw shooting contest for Perry.
A jumper by Adams cuts the score to 42-36 with 1:22 left. A failed inbound play by Perry gives it right back to Hamilton, but they turn it right back over. Williams is fouled on the next inbound play. He converts both ends of the 1 and 1 extending the lead to 44-36. Hamilton running out of time scored on a put back of a missed shot making the score 44-38. More free throws at the end extends the lead and the game ends with a final of 48-38. Congratulations to the 6A Boys Basketball Champions…..The Perry Pumas.
