Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 53: North Vermillion (Host): Attica, North Vermillion, Riverton Parke, Rockville, Turkey Run.
Breakdown: In Sectional 53, you have a Sectional that is lacking stars and top teams but could be entertaining as they are so closely matched. Attica and Rockville have done well against their own Sectional opponents and Riverton Parke is playing well too. Rockville got the toughest draw having Turkey Run, then Riverton Parke, before probably seeing Attica in the final. With that being said, they still have to be looked at as the favorite.
Sectional 54: Tri-Central (Host): Clinton Central, Clinton Prairie, Faith Christian, Frontier, Lafayette Central Catholic, Tri-Central.
Breakdown: In Sectional 54, you have a perennial powerhouse in Central Catholic but this time they are really going to have some competition. Clinton Prairie is among the best teams in 1A and will be on the opposite side. Clinton Prairie gets an easier road than Central Catholic but regardless, it would be some major upset if either of those teams didn’t meet in the final game.
Sectional 55: Wes-Del (Host): Anderson Preparatory Academy, Cowan, Daleville, Liberty Christian, Southern Wells, Wes-Del.
Breakdown: In Sectional 55, you have one of the best teams from last season in Liberty Christian. However, they aren’t as polished and deep as they were a year ago and now Wes-Del is looking to make it through. The positive is that this turned out to be a balanced Sectional that is now set to have the two best teams meet in the Championship game. Liberty Christian does have the harder path to get to the final game so watch for a potential upset.
Sectional 56: Blue River Valley (Host): Blue River Valley, Randolph Southern, Seton Catholic, Tri, Union (Modoc), Union City.
Breakdown: In Sectional 56, you have one of the least competitive Sectionals in the state. Only one team in this Sectional has double-digit wins this season, which is Seton Catholic with 12. With that, Seton Catholic was able to land the first round bye game. They should have the upper hand easily with only two games to make it through to the next round. Blue River Valley is the only team in the Sectional to beat them during the regular season and could meet them in the semifinal game.
