The numbers so far for Josh? Eighteen points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, and four assists per game for a 10-8 team that is winning by an average score of 57-52 each night.
“The season for the team and myself has probably been the best the program has ever had,” Josh said.
“We are playing some quality basketball and competing with teams that we haven’t been able to recently. We have had our tough losses but have been able to hang with teams that should get easy wins.”
We watched Josh this fall at the Top 250 Expo and compared him to what we saw during AAU year and the progress was big. He’s improved even more as a junior.
“My game has grown really all around,” Josh said. “My ball handling and being able to drive into the paint from outside has given me an advantage on most players.
“My ability to score and rebound has gotten better as well. So I’d definitely say my game has grown all around.”
Region play includes Stanley, Kemare, Parshall, and others. Burke County has played well against teams within their district (7-4) and feel like they could make a run.
“Playoffs are looking pretty decent. We go in as a seed to make a regional run for sure. As far as regionals go we could easily be playing for championship if we keep our play up. We can be a scary playoff team if we continue to play our game.”
At 6-foot-9 and improving with the numbers he has Joshua will be able to play college basketball if he wants to. Several schools are already in contact.
“As far as colleges right now I’ve been in contact with a few smaller schools in state,” Kihle said.
“Minot State, Williston State, U of Mary, and a little from Valley City State. Out of state I’ve been getting interest from University of Sioux Falls and Minnesota State-Moorhead.”
Josh is 16 points away from 1,000 for his career.
