District playoffs are essentially in full swing as we begin the month of February. That means we are one step closer to Lakeland and the state tournament.

Let’s take a look at some player news on my radar. Please reach out to me at my socials below regarding any information.

[player_tooltip player_id="1055707" first="Ian" last="Smikle"] - Suncoast

2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055707" first="Ian" last="Smikle"] is having a great season for Suncoast. The 6-foot-8 forward is averaging 13.1 points and 12.4 boards per game while shooting 57 percent from the floor. Against Dwyer (2/02), Smikle had 16 points and 13 boards on 8-of-11 from the field. He has 15 double-doubles overall. Smikle is a powerful kid with 111 offensive rebounds. Moreover, he has 34 blocks and three or more rejections in six games. Point being, Smikle is tough to move around inside. Furthermore, his footwork and athleticism continues to improve. The sky is the limit for this kid. Suncoast is 17-4 overall behind elite point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1053915" first="Stone" last="Bureau"] (14 ppg/5.4 apg) and guard [player_tooltip player_id="709251" first="Nate" last="Sasser"] (12.2 ppg/7.4 rpg).

[player_tooltip player_id="829477" first="Kevin" last="Pazmino"] - Cypress Bay

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829477" first="Kevin" last="Pazmino"] scored 22 points and hit five 3-pointers to help the Lightning defeat Boyd Anderson at the Big 8. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard added eight rebounds. Pazmino hit a game-tying 3-pointer with just seconds remaining in regulation. He has plenty of length and great form to get off that type of shot. Cypress Bay has won 11 straight games. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1062420" first="Noah" last="Kattan"] added 14 points and sealed the victory from the free-throw line. 2022 Maxwell Gordon chipped in with 10 points while dishing out eight assists. Cypress Bay is a tough team to beat when its seniors are clicking. The Lightning are 19-4 overall under head coach Jason Looky.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295984" first="Javi" last="Rosell"] - Belen Jesuit

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1295984" first="Javi" last="Rosell"] scored 13 points and dished out 12 assists to help the Wolverines defeat Monsignor Pace. The 5-foot-11 point guard also added six boards. Rosell is a natural passer and has improved as a shooter during his junior season. Belen Jesuit finished the regular season at 16-6. Rosell and company now turn to districts.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829421" first="Caleb" last="Mackrey"] (Olympic Heights) scored 29 points and dished out six assists in an overtime loss to Park Vista. The 6-foot-3 guard reached a personal milestone with his 1000th career point.

2022 Sagemont guard [player_tooltip player_id="1161407" first="Adrian" last="Cruz"] has helped the Lions to a 18-6 record. The 6-foot-3 point guard is averaging 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. Cruz is shooting around 35 percent from three and 80 percent from the line. I’ve been impressed with him all season.

Keep 2026 Alexander Constanza (Mater Academy Charter) on your radar. The 6-foot-8 forward is averaging just over 14 points per game. Constanza scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds against Miami Country Day this week. This is just the beginning for him. Mater Academy Charter is 11-4 overall.

Overall, he has averaged 10.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Wilson holds a 3.7 GPA. Dwyer is 18-2 overall and have won eight straight games. The Panthers two defeats were by a combined 13 points. Dwyer faces Forest Hill (18-3) on Saturday. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="962569" first="Kyle" last="McNeal"] leads the way with 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
