GERMANTOWN -- Breaking down the top individual performances from the 2022 Warhawk Invitational...

[player_tooltip player_id="801152" first="Tyler" last="Borowski"] - 2022 - PG - Appleton East

Borowski just made winning play after winning play in crunch time during a victory over Germantown. Loved how he stepped up in the final five minutes or so of a back and forth affair. The senior played exactly like he’s supposed to, answering every big shot by the opposition, generating stops, and bringing a calm, cool presence to the floor. Borowski tallied 15 points, six assists, and four steals on Saturday. The Winona State was deadly in the mid-range. He never settled for shots, always looked to attack or facilitate inside, but when he ran out of options, Borowski always had a mid-range jumper in his back pocket.

Highlights of Winona State commit [player_tooltip player_id="801152" first="Tyler" last="Borowski"] from the Warhawk Invitational.@tylerborowski_ had 15 points, 6 assists, and four steals to lead Appleton East to a win over Germantown. pic.twitter.com/90zqnOqRvX
— Prep Hoops Wisconsin (@PrepHoops_WI) January 31, 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="1142131" first="Jack" last="Daugherty"] - 2024 - F - Brookfield Central

Daugherty showed me a little something on Saturday. Think he’s still trying to fully find himself, but you saw a light click on during a loss to Neenah. With Central’s star player struggling and the Lancers in danger falling too far behind, Daugherty got aggressive and put his team on his back a bit. The skilled, versatile forward had 11 of his 14 points in the first half, including a strong spurt to get Central back in the game. You saw the flashes that could make Daugherty a special prospect -- knocking down face-up 3-pointers and taking defenders down to the block and scoring with finesse and crafty footwork.

[player_tooltip player_id="865837" first="Chevalier" last="Emery Jr"]. - 2022 - G - Neenah

Emery once again led Neenah to a resume-building win, knocking off Brookfield Central on Saturday. The senior guard scored 20 points in the victory. A sneaky Mr. Basketball candidate right now as the Rockets continue to have a tremendous season, it felt like Emery was in total control throughout the contest. The Merrimack commit was able to go get a bucket pretty much whenever he wanted. On the ball, Emery’s ability to start and stop just left defenders in the dust. Emery utilizes that on screens as well, able to generate separation, get the defender on his back, and turn the corner. He pairs his chance of pace with a nice mid-range or even 3-point range pull-up game, which sets up his hesitation blow-by drives to the rim. A prospect that’s going to make a late move in the class of 2022 rankings, Emery continues to build off his breakout summer and lead this Rocket team to great things.

[player_tooltip player_id="1267665" first="Hunter" last="Gosz"] - 2022 - G/W - Germantown

Really like how Gosz ties this Germantown squad together. The Warhawks surround him with shooters and rely on the senior to make plays in different areas of the floor. Gosz can orchestrate the offense in transition, at the top of the key, or even down on the block where he sucks in defenders and kicks to his shooters. Despite a loss to Appleton East, Gosz wouldn’t let his team die easily, scoring a game-high 30 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Gosz also registered eight rebounds, four assists, and got to the foul line 12 times on Saturday. Gosz has a very advanced post game for his size/position. At 6-foot-2, he’s very comfortable with his back to the basket and has patient, crafty footwork to get around defenders.

2022 G/W [player_tooltip player_id="1267665" first="Hunter" last="Gosz"] dropped 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists at the Warhawk Invitational.@hgosz_0 @GTownBBB pic.twitter.com/08Na9o0H4p
— Prep Hoops Wisconsin (@PrepHoops_WI) February 1, 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="865843" first="Grant" last="Martin"] - 2022 - SG - Menomonee Falls

When Martin plays like he did Saturday, the Phoenix are going to be very tough to beat. Falls is already throwing the best duo in the state at you. If Martin can consistently score in double figures and take advantage of the looks he’s going t get, opponents must pick their poison. Martin contributed 13 points and also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out two assists in a win over Kimberly. The senior guard helped get his team going early and survive some early punches thrown by the opposition. A sharpshooter who can also get to the rim, Martin’s been quietly one of the bigger x-factors around the state this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="988975" first="J.J." last="Paider"] - 2022 - PF - Neenah

Paider dropped 14 points and 10 rebounds to help Neenah get past Brookfield Central. One of the state’s fastest-rising seniors, Paider continues to impact the game in a variety of ways. Whoever gets Paider is getting a baby deer who has a chance to grow into something really promising. At 6-foot-8, Paider is mobile, long, versatile, and possesses a budding perimeter skillset. He’s an excellent high-low passer, is getting better and better with his back to the basket, and is even starting to take the ball coast-to-coast in transition. Paider also has good hands, is able to catch in traffic, and explodes quickly off the ground to score at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="980996" first="Robert" last="Peters"] - 2023 - PF - West Allis Hale

Peters posted 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists in a win over Beaver Dam. A budding post prospect that gets better each time we see him, Peters did a lot of different things on Saturday. The 6-foot-8 junior was spending a lot of time on the perimeter as a primary ball handler. Hale often even used him in isolation settings to attack from the top of the key. Peters also distributed the ball very well. He saw a lot of double teams in the post, didn’t panic, and often made the right decision with the basketball. Given his strength, post skills, size, and motor, Peters could definitely be playing for Division 1 offers this spring/summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="801148" first="Andrew" last="Rohde"] - 2022 - SG - Brookfield Central

Playing two big games in two days, Central didn’t have their best stuff on Saturday. After being held down in the first half, Rohde came out firing in the final period. All it took was a couple of free throws before the break to get him going, but often is the case, just seeing the ball go through the hoop by any means can be therapeutic. With the Lancers facing a double-digit deficit, Rohde just took over. The St. Thomas commit poured in 29 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals to give his team a slight chance late. Now pushing 6-foot-7, Rohde can generate just about any shot he wants. His quickness on the ball is noticeably improved as well. Unfazed by a hand in his face or physical defense, Rohde has a chance for a special career the next level. The offense is easy to notice, but Rohde is also a two-way player with a stopper mentality. He came up that way, needing to defend at a high level to get minutes in a stacked program that’s been pumping out Division 1 and Division 2 prospects.

[player_tooltip player_id="981005" first="Danny" last="Staskunas"] - 2023 - G - West Allis Hale

Staskunas has quietly developed into one of the better juniors in the state. He just put it on Beaver Dam in the second half as West Allis Hale ran away with the game. Staskunas plays at a very high pace and is able to shoot on the go. Love his give-it-up-to-get-it-back mentality. In the open floor, Staskunas pushes with the pass, not the dribble, trails the play, and often finds himself open to step into a 3-pointer. The junior guard finished with 19 points (6-11), eight assists, and four rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="1129756" first="Seth" last="Trimble"] - 2022 - PG - Menomonee Falls

After this weekend, Trimble is the clear cut favorite to win Mr. Basketball. Not only did he even the score with Brookfield Central during a 37-point performance, Trimble came back on Saturday and nearly dropped a triple-double against Kimberly. The North Carolina commit went for 32 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists during a blowout win. When Trimble is feeling it from 3-point range...it’s over. A big time athlete who’s very difficult to keep out of the paint, Trimble knocked down three triples, including two to open the second half, which started the rout. When Trimble gets downhill, gets two feet in the paint, his defender is praying that there’s some help behind him, because Trimble is a poster dunk waiting to happen. The highlights are exciting, but the Tar Heels are also getting a high-IQ floor general that can play in the halfcourt, make sound decisions, dissect the defense in the pick n’ roll, and provide floor leadership.

OMG @sethtrimble1 pic.twitter.com/dKJ7VbqBfh
— Evan Flood (@Evan_Flood) January 30, 2022
