With week two finished and players starting to get back into their rhythms, more and more players are showing off all their hard work in the off-season. 3A has started out with a bang and has not only some of Colorado’s best players but as well as some of Colorado’s most underrated players as well. As the season progresses, please key an eye out on these week 2 3A standout players of the week.

[player_tooltip player_id="618880" first="Jordan" last="Reed"] | 6’5 SG | Manual High School

Completing week 2 of the season, [player_tooltip player_id="618880" first="Jordan" last="Reed"] is averaging an astounding 31.7 PPG and 9.3 RPG for the Thunderbolts. The season so for Manual High is not looking hot at the moment due to facing two tough opponents being Saint Mary’s and the 5A Eaglecrest. [player_tooltip player_id="618880" first="Jordan" last="Reed"] has been the light shining at the end of the tunnel early on this year carrying his team thus far to what will hopefully soon be a turnaround. The 6’4 Guard has the frame of a college-ready player and shoots well beyond the high school level with 60% from the field in total and almost a bizarre 50% from deep demonstrating that he was born a natural scorer. Despite his team losing their only game this week, Jordan deserves to be put on this list by showcasing his ability to play at a high level even against bigger schools with an impressive stat line of 27-1-5.

[player_tooltip player_id="1162265" first="Trent" last="Johnston"] | 6’5 C | La Junta High School

Trent is already such an incredible player that utilizes his size and strength in order to score easy buckets from the post. Determination is another word to describe his playstyle as he always positions himself to get rebounds and force he was into position if he isn’t. Averaging 23 PPG and 13 RPG this season, Johnston posted two double-doubles in 3 games this week and in the game, he didn’t secure a double-double he contributed 32 points. Most of his points come from him playing in the low post which is smart considering his size advantage, but the one thing we would like to see him improve on is not feeling obligated to put the ball on the floor as much in order to score from down low. The senior is off to a remarkable start and with a few minor adjustments to his bag on the offensive side and this player could be in the conversation for the first or second all-state team by the end of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="965813" first="Will" last="Yebio"] | 6'0 PG | Bishop Machebeuf High School

Leader in PPG in all of Colorado with 34.8 this season, [player_tooltip player_id="965813" first="Will" last="Yebio"] is a man on a mission. Making the honorable mentions list for players that just missed out on the all-state teams a year ago, Will is set out to prove he is the best scorer in all of Colorado, if not the entire nation. Only listed at 6'0, the amount of hard work and dedication that is needed to score at such a high level is what separates himself from most of the pack. With a season-high of 43 coming against Denver North this week, you would assume he is a lights-out shooter from deep. The reality is, his three-point percentage is still yet to be where most expect it to be. Yebio is scoring comfortably and with ease from mid-range and is so quick to get to the basket that most defenders don’t have a chance of contesting his shots. There is no doubt that his percentage from deep will continue to increase the more games he plays and the more reps he puts in.

[player_tooltip player_id="1285224" first="Ethan" last="Levin"] | 5’10 PG | Kent Denver High School

Bursting onto the basketball scene as a Junior, and being one of the two-member to an unstoppable backcourt, Levin helped lead his team with fellow backcourt guard Jay Royal to another spectacular win. This week Levin scored 24 points which is almost double of what he averaged an entire season ago. With his team 3-0, the young guard for Kent Denver is shooting with more confidence and cashing in when needed. Although other players are averaging more than Ethan in terms of points, Ethan and his teammate Jay Royal are both averaging over 25 a game in what looks to be the most efficient offensive thus far in 3A. Ethan deserved a spot on the list this week for leading his team in winning their closest game of the year after coming off back-to-back wins with Kent Denver scoring over 100.

Andrew Sterling | 6'5 SF | The Academy High School

Seeing players become accustomed to playing basketball at the high school level again in week 2, The academy is one of very few teams that enter their first week this season. The 6'5 small forward came out the gates fast and topped his performance from each previous game he played this week. Going from 19 points in his first game and 27 points on his third and final game of the week, Andrew Sterling must've seen the basket twice the size than normal. Just shy of shooting 50-40-90 in his first three games, Sterling's size is what helps him score with ease. His size might make him stand out from others, however, it's his ability to keep the defense guessing whether if he is going to shoot or drive that makes him a special player.
