Mitchell Kernels: Team Preview

<p><strong>Mitchell, SD - </strong>This fortunate program gets to call the Corn Palace its home and play all their home games at that amazing venue! Mitchell will have a new head coach this season, Ryker Kreutzfeldt. The roster for the Kernels is highlighted by [player_tooltip player_id="812199" first="Caden" last="Hinker"], who committed to Augustana this offseason. Hinker is the #1 Ranked Prospect in the South Dakota 2022 Class. Now let’s take a deeper look at the Kernels, who play their first game on Friday against Huron.</p> <h4><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Coach <em>Kreutzfeldt</em> talks about excitement heading into the season</strong></span></h4> <p>"​<em>We are very excited for the upcoming season because we have had a great offseason. We’ve seen a lot of growth throughout our roster. Our strengths will be our ability to play at a fast pace and having multiple scoring options.</em>"</p> <h3><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Top Players</strong></span></h3> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="812199" first="Caden" last="Hinker"] (2022) |6-9 F|</strong></p> <p>He is an extremely talented player that can play any position on the floor. The Kernels will look to Caden as a facilitator on the offensive end. On defense, Mitchell will need Hinker to be the anchor. Everything the Kernels do will be centered around Hinker. ​</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="968182" first="Macon" last="Larson"] (2022) |5-10 G|</strong></p> <p>He is a versatile guard who will play at the point for Mitchell this year. Macon is an excellent shooter and a skilled playmaker. Larson has the ability to lead the Kernels in points on any given night as well as get all of his teammates involved.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="968222" first="Gavyn" last="Degen"] (2022) |6-0 G|</strong></p> <p>He is a 4-year varsity letter-winner for Mitchell. Degen is a great shooter who excels in transition. The Kernels will look to him for scoring and to be a great perimeter defender.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="963805" first="Dylan" last="Soulek"] (2023) |6-2 G|</strong></p> <p>He is an extremely athletic guard whose length causes problems for his match-up defensively. Dylan is a great playmaker who finishes very well around the rim. Look for Soulek to make a big step in his Junior year.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="963755" first="Steele" last="Morgan"] (2023) |6-5 F|</strong></p> <p>He has rich basketball history in his family. Steele has a variety of moves in the post and is a great rebounder. Morgan has greatly improved his outside shot over the off-season. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="963764" first="Charlie" last="McCardle"] (2023) |6-3 F|</strong></p> <p>He is always the hardest worker on the floor. Charlie plays much bigger than his size would indicate. McCardle can score in the post and also provides consistent 3-point shooting.</p> <p><strong>Aiden Myers (2023) |6-1 G|</strong></p> <p> He is a guard who excels at getting to the rim. Myers is a great finisher around the rim and an extremely tough defender. Aiden will play a big role for Mitchell this season.</p> <p><strong>Jackson Childs (2023) |6-5 G|</strong></p> <p>He is a very lengthy guard who can guard and play multiple positions. Jackson is a solid shooter from beyond the 3-point arc.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1297809" first="Markus" last="Talley"] (2025) |6-0 G|</strong></p> <p> He is a sharpshooting lefty. Talley will be one of the best shooters on the Kernel team. Markus always seems to be making the correct player. He has an extremely high basketball IQ. We feel that we have some talent here that will improve with every game.
