Seton Catholic vs. Hagerstown
As an east central Indiana native, it is always nice to get to support the area wear I grew up and currently live now. However, this game was never very competitive. The Cardinals jumped out to a 13-3 lead on the back of a 6-point, 6-rebound quarter from 6’7″ sophomore Mason Harvey Mason Harvey 6'7" | PF Seton Catholic | 2024 State IN . Hagerstown had no answer for Seton’s athletic guards and the ball pressure they provided. By halftime, Seton led 38-11 and we were on our way to a blowout.
Each trip down the floor the Tigers seemed sped up and were taking quick shots to avoid the pressure defense provided by the Seton Catholic guards. This allowed the Cardinals to play in transition and continue to pull away. By midway through the third quarter the game went to a running clock and no Seton starter played in the 4th quarter. Seton Catholic would eventually win 62-27 in a game that could have been even more lopsided.
Mason Harvey Mason Harvey 6'7" | PF Seton Catholic | 2024 State IN led the way with 22 points & 11 rebounds for Seton. Andrew Warner added 13 points including a trio of first half three-pointers. Braiden Hogg Braiden Hogg 6'1" | PG Richmond | 2024 State IN contributed 10 points and 4 assists.
Fort Wayne Wayne vs. Leo
Speaking of games that were never really close, Leo put a big spread on the scoreboard early on at Fort Wayne Wayne Wednesday night. The Tigers led 27-12 after a quarter and after 24 first half points by Caedmon Bontrager Caedmon Bontrager 6'8" | PF Leo | 2022 State IN , Leo led 47-28 at the half.
This one would never quite get to the running clock though as Wayne would hang around just enough throughout the game. Their young talent on the perimeter played well, but the size advantage for Leo was just too much to overcome. The Lions would roll on to an 85-55 victory to move to 3-0 on the season.
Caedmon Bontrager Caedmon Bontrager 6'8" | PF Leo | 2022 State IN scored 38 points on nearly perfect shooting from the field along to go along with 9 rebounds in the game. Ayden Ruble Ayden Ruble 6'2" | SG Leo | 2022 State IN added 11 points and 9 assists while Luke LaGrange Luke LaGrange 6'5" | SF Leo | 2022 State IN scored 10 points with a pair of three-pointers.
Players Evaluations
More evaluations to come on Sunday! Stay tuned to Prep Hoops Indiana and @BRamseyKSR on Twitter!
Mason Harvey Mason Harvey 6'7" | PF Seton Catholic | 2024 State IN (Seton Catholic 2024): The 6’7″ sophomore is a pick-and-pop 4-man that can really, really shoot the basketball. He was 3/8 from beyond the arc in this game, but he is a guy were you expect the ball to go in every time he releases it. Looked much improved on the glass and did a good job defending around the basket. Solid long-term prospect in the 2024 class.
Braiden Hogg Braiden Hogg 6'1" | PG Richmond | 2024 State IN (Seton Catholic 2024): Dynamic lead guard that can make plays for himself and others off of the dribble. As he continues to get stronger he will really improve his playmaking skills. Good passer already with plus vision. Showed his ability to make decisions as he attacked the basket. One to follow in the sophomore class.
Jevon Lewis Jevon Lewis 5'9" | PG Fort Wayne Wayne | 2024 State IN (Fort Wayne Wayne H.S. 2024): Super quick, small point guard. Left-handed playmaker that was able to penetrate the defense well against a stout Leo defense. Very good outside shooter with range. Lewis is a dangerous player with the ball in his hands because he can score it from all three levels. Will have a big scoring season for the Generals.
Ayden Ruble Ayden Ruble 6'2" | SG Leo | 2022 State IN (Leo H.S. 2022): Ruble played an excellent basketball game Wednesday afternoon. The strong lead guard flirted with a double-double scoring 11 points to go with a game-high 9 assists. He was consistently finding his teammates around the basket for easy buckets that he helped create. Probably the best I’ve seen him play to this point. Will be a nice addition for a small college program in the backcourt.
