Mr. Basketball Candidate: Fletcher Loyer

<p>In 49 states it is just basketball, but this is Indiana. There is no better time of year than high school basketball season in the Hoosier state. Here at Prep Hoops Indiana, our staff will set out to bring the very best coverage from throughout the state. Evansville, Gary, South Bend, Terre Haute, we will leave no corner of Indiana unturned.</p> <p>Now that official practices are quickly approaching and we are just weeks away from tipping off the first game, it is time to dive head first into previewing the upcoming season. Over the coming weeks you can expect breakdowns of each class along with teams and players to watch, a look at the top Mr. Basketball and Indiana All-Star candidates, preseason team rankings, and much, much more. In total, we will outline who we believe to be the five primary candidates to win the coveted award. There is no rhyme or reason to the order in which the candidates are released, so don’t read too much into that. We began this series by looking at Mr. Basketball candidate [player_tooltip player_id="870222" first="Braden" last="Smith"] from Westfield High School and then announced [player_tooltip player_id="870212" first="Tayshawn" last="Comer"] of Cathedral High School as our second candidate. The next candidate in our ongoing series was Wisconsin commit [player_tooltip player_id="769682" first="Connor" last="Essegian"] of Central Noble High School, followed by Lawrence North’s [player_tooltip player_id="870213" first="Chris" last="Gunn"]. Our final candidate is [player_tooltip player_id="1063961" first="Fletcher" last="Loyer"] from Homestead High School.</p> <p>Loyer, a Purdue signee, is ranked as the #4 prospect in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2022 rankings. After moving in to the Fort Wayne area from Michigan after his sophomore season he immediately became one of the best players in the state. He may not have the "career achievement" of some four year IHSAA players, but he is more than deserving of being a candidate for Indiana’s top individual award.</p> <p>Leading Homestead to a 25-1 record before ultimately falling to Carmel in the Regional Championship game, the 6’4" guard was one of the state’s leading scorers at 24.4 points per game. Loyer also chipped in 4.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.1 steals a game. He is a do-it-all guard could legitimately average around 30 points per game this season.</p> <p>If we are all being honest, [player_tooltip player_id="1063961" first="Fletcher" last="Loyer"] probably deserves to be the favorite heading into this season for Mr. Basketball. He had an outstanding junior season, experienced great team success, and should only improve this season. Assuming that Homestead is a top five team in the state, faces off with Carmel in the regional once again, and Loyer averages around 25 points per game, it will be really hard to deny him the award.</p>
