On November 11th I attended the Latitude Longitude Grind Session at AZ Compass Prep in Chandler, AZ.

I watched two games featuring two local teams.

Both AZ teams had impressive first outings in AZ and earned victories with team effort. They clearly shared the ball and it paid off.

Results:

Bella Vista Prep 89 Edge School/CAN 77

Phhoenix Prep 81 Denver Prep/CO 71

Here were the senior standouts from Phhoenix Prep vs Denver Prep game. (Denver Prep has a younger team):

The San Jose State commit had a very good game. He hit multiple 3’s, drove the lane and kicked it to shooters and smartly moves without the ball. He runs the court like an athlete would and takes very few steps to get to the rim to throw it down. One of those highlight reel players that get crowds going.

[player_tooltip player_id="1291505" first="Shahid" last="Muhammad"] Phhoenix Prep

One of the top forward athletes in the state seems to jump on a trampoline before he leaps. He grabs rebounds in his area and will block shots. He isn’t the scoring machine but is developing a consistent turn around jumper from inside of 10-feet. He also will rim and throw it down.

[player_tooltip player_id="973813" first="Jayson" last="Petty"] Phhoenix Prep (Pictured)

An important piece to what the local team is doing. He is turning into the classic 3 and D type. He has a consistent release and stays balanced throughout his shot. He still makes his mid range pull-up off the dribble and will defend multiple positions. He had multiple blocks off the glass impressively showing his defensive prowess.

[player_tooltip player_id="994506" first="Rickey" last="Bradley"] Phhoenix Prep

The player of the game for PHH was Bradley. He is a natural downhill scorer and he slices through traffic with his toughness, strength and handle. He is a smart play-maker and touches the paint to score most of his points. He has a nice layup package with floaters and he is physical on the ball defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158869" first="Pierce" last="Bazil"] Phhoenix Prep

One of their catalysts of the offense is Bazil. He is an old school pure PG who scores it as well. He can hit the catch-3 and hesitate and get to the basket and is not afraid to take it to the chest of defenders. He has a tight handle and he changes speeds well and will facilitate to teammates. He committed to Houston Baptist.

[player_tooltip player_id="827001" first="Will" last="Coates"] Phhoenix Prep

A true face-up four-man moves fluidly around the court. He rebounds in his area and will score on put backs in the paint, but he will take that pretty 3pt touch to NAU next season. He is trying to transition into a bigger-3 for college.

[player_tooltip player_id="809683" first="Nicholas" last="Riley"] Phhoenix Prep

Big Nick has soft hands, good post footwork and loves contact inside the trenches. He is an efficient scorer under the rim and will grab rebounds in bunches with his big mitts, girth and strength. He knows his role on this team and outworks his opponents deep in the paint.
