The NCHSAA 2021-22 season will be upon us on in the next few weeks. Here's a look at Part II of the NCHSAA 4A backcourts to keep an eye on.

Apex Friendship: [player_tooltip player_id="1028010" first="Gabe" last="Proctor"] (2022) & [player_tooltip player_id="1219914" first="Isaac" last="Holmes"] (2023)

Proctor is a combo guard with good instincts on both ends of the floor. He’s one of the more underrated shooters in the state set to make a splash at the 4A level. Holmes is a matchup nightmare in the making with his ability to play in the backcourt at 6-foot-6 alongside Proctor who has a high IQ for making plays and knocking down 3’s himself. They’re an underrated pair set to make waves for the Patriots in 2021-22.

JL Chambers: [player_tooltip player_id="947288" first="Jaylen" last="Curry"] & [player_tooltip player_id="1277983" first="Nick" last="Dorn"] (2023s)

Curry had himself a busy summer winning a gold medal with Team USA in the FIBA U16 Championships. He’s an electric guard that can score in a variety of ways and does a masterful job passing the ball. Dorn is a wiry guard at 6-foot-3 with underrated length and strength off the ball. He can create off the bounce and knock down shots behind the arc. He’ll be a solid option in the backcourt for Curry to work with. North Carolina A&T and Presbyterian have offered Dorn. Curry holds offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Texas A&M.

Hoke County: [player_tooltip player_id="1086991" first="Jaylen" last="Sturdivant"] & [player_tooltip player_id="1086992" first="Salah" last="Sutton"] (2024s)

Sturdivant and Sutton are two guards that have improved vastly in the 2024 class in the state. Sturdivant recently took home the 9Dime Fall League MVP award as his squad took home the title. He’s a tough guard that can knock down the 3-ball and use his strength and size at 6-foot-3 to make things happen. Sutton is a prospect that plays a very unselfish brand of basketball, doing well to move well without the ball and be in spots for easy buckets and 3-point shots. He’s another guard to keep an eye on in the backcourt for Hoke County High.

North Mecklenburg: [player_tooltip player_id="1028009" first="Davion" last="Cunningham"] & [player_tooltip player_id="1121033" first="Jordan" last="Crawford"] (2022s)

Cunningham and Crawford return looking to avenge last year’s early exit in the 4A State Playoffs against Ardrey Kell. The duo went 11-1 in the shortened 2020-21 season, showing off their ability to be a strong 1-2 combination in the North Mecklenburg backcourt. Both can create their shot in the open court with ease and defend with their athleticism and speed. Crawford can get out create downhill and plays with a motor. Cunningham is another energetic guard that defends at a high level. He was recently offered by Merrimack to add to his list of Western Carolina and Robert Morris. Crawford holds offers from Radford, Hofstra, UNC-Wilmington, College of Charleston, and USC-Upstate.

Cleveland: [player_tooltip player_id="1253927" first="Baron" last="Williams"] ( 2022) & [player_tooltip player_id="1256427" first="Jayse" last="Barrett"] (2023)

Williams and Barrett are just a few names to know in the Cleveland High rotation in 2021-22. Williams is an aggressive two-way presence that brings the game to his opponents as a shooter and paint-toucher. He’s developed nicely over the past few months. Barrett is a wiry presence at 6-foot-3 that can handle the ball and play on the wing with his versatility. He's another sharpshooter and crashes the offensive glass with prowess.
