I am predicting North Border as the top team with Hillsboro/Central Valley close behind the Eagles. Thompson will also be a talented team and they will give North Border and Hillsboro a run for their money. It is going to be a fun year!
Region 2 Teams
Cavalier Tornadoes, Drayton/Valley Edinburg Titans, Grafton Spoliers, Hatton/Northwood Thunder, Hillsboro/Central Valley, Larimore Polar Bears, May-Port C-G Patriots, Midway/Minto Mustangs, North Border Eagles, Park River/Fordville Lankin Aggies, Thompson Tommies.
REGION 2 PLAYER WATCHLIST
(alphabetically ordered)
Avery Rosinski Avery Rosinski 6'2" | PG Park River/Fordville-Lankin | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-2 PG| Park River/Fordville-Lankin
He will be the floor general for the Aggies. As the PG, Avery will do a nice job at creating for others. For a PG, Avery has good size and length. He is a top-notch defender and his jump shot is improving. Rosinski is a crafty finisher who finds his way to the basket. He has a ton of potential. Last season, Avery was second on the team in points, second in rebounds, first in assists, first in 3-pointers, and first in steals. It is fair to assume that Rosinski has a big season ahead of him.
Ayden Stainbrook Ayden Stainbrook 6'5" | SF North Border | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-4 F| North Border
He is a better athlete than I realized. Ayden had an impressive transition dunk at the 250 Expo this fall. He is a great perimeter shooter. Ayden is deadly from deep. He will have one of the best shooting strokes in the Region. Stainbrook has also been developing an inside game to go along with his excellent catch-and-shoot game. His length and athleticism make him a versatile defender and rebounder.
Ben Gudajtes Ben Gudajtes 6'1" | SG Midway/Minto | 2025 State ND (2025) |5-11 G| Midway/Minto
He is a smart player and an improving defender. Ben’s game around the basket is also improving. Gudajtes slashes hard to the paint and he is a solid rebounder for his young age. His jumper is becoming more consistent and Ben plays with a ton of energy.
Everett Fedje (2024) |6-4 SF| Drayton/Valley-Edinburg
He is a skilled youthful player that shoots it well. Everett can be a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Look for Fedje to be a consistent scorer this season for the Titans. Expect the rest of his game to keep developing throughout the season.
Gannon Limke Gannon Limke 6'6" | PF Hillsboro/Central Valley | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-5 F| Hillsboro/Central Valley
He was an All-Region player a year ago that averaged 15 ppg and 12 rpg. Expect Gannon’s numbers to take a nice jump this year. He is an excellent all-around player and a gifted athlete. Limke is “put-together” and strong. He plays with tenacity around the basket. Gannon is also a top-tier defender that can guard multiple positions.
Jacob Brandt Jacob Brandt 6'10" | PF Hillsboro/Central Valley | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-7 PF| Hillsboro/Central Valley
He will be one of the best sophomore BIGS in all of North Dakota. Last season, Jacob averaged 7 ppg and 4rpg. Brandt can effectively play inside, on the block, and with his back to the basket. Jacob has some nice moves and he has a soft touch. He also has shooting range out to the 3-point arc. The Burros will appreciate his rebounding and rim protecting. The young Brandt has a very high ceiling.
Jake Starcevic Jake Starcevic 6'2" | SF Kindred | 2025 State ND (2025) |6-2 G| Thompson
He is a very nice athlete, especially for his young age. When I watched him play last season I was impressed with his crisp and precise passes. Jake’s strength and speed are also noteworthy. His shooting form looks nice and he has the chance to become a serious outside threat. Starcevic has boatloads of potential.
Jaxen Johnson Jaxen Johnson 6'5" | PF North Border | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-5 PF| North Border
He was the quarterback for the championship football team and the engineer of the offense. In hoops, Johnson will be the key inside piece when it comes to rebounding and lane protection. He will be a force in the middle. Jaxen moves well and he can hurt teams from in and out.
Kaleb Braun (2022) |6-2 G| Hatton/Northwood
This kid is an impressive and gifted athlete. Braun is very quick and shifty. Kaleb is a playmaker and he creates for others. He is also a very talented/tough on and off-ball defender.
Karter Peterson Karter Peterson 6'6" | PF Thompson | 2025 State ND (2023) |6-3 SF| Thompson
Another talented youngster from Thompson. Karter can get it done from the block and from beyond the arc. He has good strength and Karter is not afraid of older players. I am looking forward to seeing Peterson play after a good summer of hoops with ND Attack.
Kelby Azure Kelby Azure 6'4" | PF Hatton/Northwood | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-4 F| Hatton/Northwood
He has committed to playing football at NDSU next year. Azure is a strong and special player that can dominate in the paint. Kelby can also step outside and hit the perimeter jumper. However, he does most of his work in the lane and he can take over a game. Azure is a dynamic player that can be a force on defense as well. Kelby is a great rebounder and he will average a double-double in points and rebounds in his senior season.
Kyle Odenbach Kyle Odenbach 6'3" | SF Thompson | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 F| Thompson
This kid is physical and athletic. Kyle is a lefty and he can score from the paint, mid-range, and from deep. I like how hard he works. He should be a tough defender and a volume rebounder.
Kyler Moore Kyler Moore 6'1" | SG North Border | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 G| North Border
He was banged up in football, so the Eagles are still waiting on his status. Kyler is a team-first player and the engine that makes the Eagles go. He is skilled and smart. Moore is also a tough and gritty kid. North Border is hoping for good news when it comes to Kyler’s health, he is a huge part of their team.
Landon Koenig Landon Koenig 6'7" | PF May-Port-C-G | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-6 F| May-Port-C-G
He will be new to the Patriots. Landon moved to Portland in the spring. Finley-Sharon will also be co-opting with May-Port-C-G this year. Landon will be one of the best forwards in Region 2 this season. Koenig has a very nice stroke and he knows the game well. He can hit the outside jumper with precision. Landon can also finish around the rim and paint effectively. He is a tireless worker, is physical, and he hits the glass hard. I am excited to see Koenig play this winter.
Lukas Pastorek (2022) |6-0 G| Drayton/Valley-Edinburg
He got his feet wet on varsity last year. The Titans are hoping for a big senior year from Lukas. Pastokrek has a solid all-around game and he can do a bit of everything. Lukas shoots, passes, and rebounds well.
Mitch Shirek (2023) Park River/Fordville-Lankin |6’ 3″ F|
He will be an explosive and athletic forward for the Aggies. Mitch can jump out of the gym. His motor never stops and he is a very good shot blocker. Shirek is an aggressive rebounder that attacks the ball. His offensive game is still developing but he shows a ton of potential. He is best facing the basket and using his explosiveness to take advantage of slower posts. Mitch has great touch around the basket and his shooting range extends out to the 3-point line. Look out for this kid’s never-ending motor, natural athleticism and work ethic.
Parker Gallagher Parker Gallagher 5'10" | SG Hillsboro/Central Valley | 2022 State ND (2022) |5’11 SG| Hillsboro/Central Valley
Last year he averaged 6 ppg and 3 apg. He will be a great shooter and defender this season for the Burros. Parker has an extended shooting range that he can match with a sweet pull-up game. He has quick feet and a quick shooting release. If HCV wants to make a State Tournament run, they will need Parker to shoot well from beyond the arc. He will be ready for the task.
Riley Robinson Riley Robinson 5'11" | SG Midway/Minto | 2024 State ND (2024) |5-10 G| Midway/Minto
He is another smart young Mustang. Last season Riley was a compliment player and now with players gone because of graduation, Robinson will be tasked with a much bigger role. He shoots it well from beyond the arc and Riley can slash and finish. Robinson sees the floor well and he has a nice passing game. As his shooting off the dribble improves, Riley will become a big scoring threat in the near future.
TJ Cosley TJ Cosley 6'0" | PG North Border | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-0 G| North Border
He showed how athletic and dynamic he can be in football this fall. Cosley is quick, crafty, and smart. He has good court vision which allows him to find open teammates. He will run the show for the Eagles. Besides directing traffic, TJ can also score in bunches. His quick hands make him a pesky defender. Cosley will be ready for a deep postseason push.
William Jiskra William Jiskra 6'4" | SF Grafton | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-4 G| Grafton
He has good size and Jiskra is an athletic forward. He is a tough rebounder, especially on the offensive end. William has a nice baby hook shot and his 15-foot jumper is spot on. He can also be a formidable low-post defender. With the Spoilers losing a ton of scoring, I would expect Jiskra to put up impressive points this season.
