However, that means some of the most important matchups of the season are coming and some intriguing storylines are emerging. We take a dive into this week’s schedule to find the top games for each day of the week.
MONDAY: Guerin Catholic vs. Heritage Christian – 7:30 PM
With a light schedule on Monday, Guerin Catholic and Heritage Christian present an interesting matchup with HC needing a big, marquee with this season and Guerin Catholic needing to get hot heading into Sectionals. Guerin has dropped 2 of their last four to Lapel and Brebeuf. Their schedule sets up for them to win out and they need to confidence heading into a really tough Sectional 8.
TUESDAY: Crown Point vs. Andrean – 8:00 PM
If Lowell was the surprise team in the Region last year, Andrean is that team this year. They are 13-2 and their only losses have come to Griffith and Merrillville but they just took down East Chicago and Lowell last week. They are playing really well but Crown Point is the best team they will face all year.
WEDNESDAY: Cardinal Ritter vs. Beech Grove – 7:30 PM
Wednesday presents another light schedule day but Ritter and Beech Grove is a nice matchup of potential Sectional opponents. Beech Grove has had a pretty solid season and although they have 6 losses, none of them would be categorized as bad. Ritter is very similar in a lot of ways and even on paper, being built more around guards and wings than with any size. It should be a very close game could come down to one play.
THURSDAY: East Chicago Central vs. Lowell – 8:00 PM
The ECC/Lowell matchup is an interesting one as both teams are currently heading in different directions. East Chicago started off the year slow and had a 5-6 record before going on a 5-game winning streak and now probably playing their best ball of the season. Lowell has now lost three straight after winning 10 of their last 11. They need to get back on track. This is a situation where one team could spiral out and one could head into the final weeks with some momentum.
FRIDAY: Lawrence North vs. Ben Davis – 7:30 PM
On Friday, there are quite a few big games but LN vs. BD is one of the best all week. Lawrence North is coming off a tough loss in 3OT to Carmel and to Grand Rapids Christian up in Michigan. Ben Davis looks like the class of Sectional 11 and has a chance to make a deep run in the tournament. Lawrence North needs to get their footing back if they are going to do the same.
SATURDAY: Bloomington South vs. Castle – 7:30 PM
Castle has proven that they can be really good and might finally have a shot in the tournament even after Sectionals. Bloomington South presents as one of the teams that could be waiting for them in Regionals. Castle looks like a team that is capable of matching up with any team in the state and Bloomington South looks like the last true test on their regular season schedule.
