Hoops By Ugland Fall HS Showcase: Top Performers (Pt. 2)

<p>The Hoops By Ugland Fall HS Showcase featured 20 games over the course of two days, hosted by Beckman and Servite high schools. The event featured some of Southern California’s top high school programs including: Santa Ana Mater Dei, Damien, Rancho Christian, Colony, St. Anthony, Fountain Valley, Eastvale Roosevelt, Gardena Serra, and more. In this piece we take a look at some of the top performers of the event.</p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1"><b>[player_tooltip player_id="994920" first="Zack" last="Davidson"]</b>, Mater Dei - The skilled 6-foot-7 four man will be the offensive catalyst for this year’s Mater Dei team and he showed why that is in a close win over Roosevelt. Davidson has a true inside-out scoring arsenal highlighted by his face-up three-point shooting and his ability to put the ball on the deck and attack the rim and finish with finesse or power.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1"><b>[player_tooltip player_id="748747" first="Jeremy" last="Dent-Smith"]</b>, Gardena Serra - Dent-Smith remains one of the best available point guards on the board in Southern California, if not the entire state of California. The smooth 6-foot-1 senior is a guy opposing defenses can’t speed up because of his command of the ball and the command of the position overall. Dent-Smith dictates pace of play, makes high IQ reads in the open court and out of high ball screen action, and hits the open catch-and-shoot three-pointer with regularity. Dent-Smith is a true extension of the coach on the floor.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1"><b>[player_tooltip player_id="748750" first="Duke" last="Gipson"]</b>, Gardena Serra - Gipson has made some big strides over the last couple of seasons since arriving at Serra. Not only has the 6-foot-9 center gotten in better shape, and become more explosive as a result of that, he’s become a much more imposing rim protector, shot blocker and rebounder. Gipson can control the defensive glass and did a nice job of running the floor and finishing any paint touches he got.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1"><b>[player_tooltip player_id="994931" first="Martin" last="Gumwel"]</b>, Rancho Christian - Gumwel continues his transformation from raw overall prospect to a potential Division I player. The 6-foot-11 center is a freakish athlete with a good set of hands and improving footwork on the low block. Gumwel is at his best when blocking or changing a shot on the defensive end and beating his man down to the other end with his high motor rim-running to earn an easy bucket.</span></p>
