The short season caused many to not play a lot of varsity minutes but this class is a really talented with some players already receiving division 1 offers. Now that we have introduced the initial rankings for the Class of 2024, here is a breakdown of the top forwards and posts in the class.
SF 6’2 Elijah Foster Elijah Foster 6'4" | CG Cibola | 2024 State NM , Cibola: Elijah will have to sit out this year after transferring from Volcano Vista to Cibola. He was the man for the Hawks JV team, and was given an opportunity to play some varsity minutes in the middle if the season where he proved that he can play at the varsity level. He is a slasher that really knows how to use his strength and speed to score the ball, and a developing jump shot. He has a year to work on his game, and it will be interesting to see how much better he gets over the next year.
SF 6’2 Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'2" | SF West Mesa | 2024 State NM , Cleveland: Brody made an immediate impact for Cleveland last season providing them with depth at both forward and wing positions. He’s strong, weighs about 185 pounds, which allows him to compete with bigs, and is also very quick laterally which allows him to stay in front of guards and wings making him a versatile defender. He could be the best defender in the class, and is in for a big sophomore season with the graduation of three seniors in the starting line up.
SG 6’0 Niko Garcia Niko Garcia 6'1" | SG Los Alamos | 2024 State NM , Los Alamos: Niko is a sleeper out of Los Alamos, but is probably the best shooter in the entire class. He can score it in bunches, especially when he gets hot, and can shoot the ball from anywhere as soon as he steps over the half court line. He will need to develop in to a better defender, and continue expanding his playmaking skills, but will be one to watch over the next few years. Averaged 7 points per game as a freshman.
SG 5’10 Marquise Renfro Marquise Renfro 6'0" | SG Atrisco Heritage | 2024 State NM , Atrisco Heritage: Renfro is one of the top defenders in the class. He is very athletic wing that excels in transition, and has developed his guard skills to help his team with playmaking duties. He should be the man on JV, and may see some varsity time this year that will be very limited for a deep, guard heavy, Atrisco squad.
SF 5’11 Jayden Johnson Jayden Johnson 6'0" | SG Rio Rancho | 2024 State NM , Rio Rancho: Johnson stood out to me at a few local tournaments over the spring, and summer playing with NM Select at the varsity level. He’s built like a running back, and is usually one of the toughest players on the floor. Jayden is a slasher from the wing, a dog on defense, and goes all out for rebounds on both ends of the floor. He may have another growth spurt coming which would make him a very intriguing prospect.
SF 5’10 Raul Stanford Raul Stanford 5'10" | CG Highland | 2024 State NM , Highland: Raul will see some bench minutes for Highland this year, and will be asked to do a little bit of everything to help the Hornets win. He will gain valuable experience for when his role is expanded in the coming years.
