I wanted to make sure I got to the gym early to catch the real hoopers. First in the gym was my mentality. When I arrived an hour early for the event the parking lot was already filling up and kids were patiently waiting in line to check in and warm up. Being my First Top 250 Expo I was excited for the experience as much as the kids were I’m sure. They were short a coach so I got the opportunity to step in and help out the kids and really see how they react to coaching and playing with other high talent.
Walking into Kingdom Hoops Saturday I was excited to see the kids I already know do well. Catch up on new players emerging and growing and find those sleepers. Immediately when I walk into the gym you always notice the bigs so I’ll Break down a few to start that caught my eye.
The Biggest kid in the gym was ’22 Cameron Fens Cameron Fens 7'0" | C Hempstead | 2022 State IA . Cameron plays club ball for Martin Brothers 6’10″ 240. Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa. With a 6ft 10 inch wing span. The 17 year old played really big and ran the floor well. Posted up and rebounded nicely. Isn’t afraid to bang and has a pretty good shooting touch. Averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists a game. Passes well out of the post and can hit the three ball well. Great rim protector.
Another Good big I got to watch make some plays and work hard was Vance Peiffer Vance Peiffer 6'7" | C Waukee | 2023 State IA . 6’7″ Big from Waukee class of 2023 plays his club ball at Kingdom Hoops. Vance was tough in the post all day. Especially on defense. Shot blocker who can also stretch the floor and hit the three ball. Stepped up to the challenge of guarding the other teams big and played smart on offense. Had some great dunks and finishes with touch at the rim. Can really jump and get you those rebounds. Runs the floor well.
Trey Kriener Trey Kriener 6'7" | C South Winneshiek | 2022 State IA caught my eye with his impressive play and versatility. The pink shoes also helped me spot him right away. A 6’7″ Center from South Winneshiek class of 2022. Trey plays club ball for Martin Brothers. He runs the floor extremely well and has that ball hawk mentality. He mixed it up with the other bigs all day and really held his own well.
The last big I am going to highlight from the day was Anthony Gott Anthony Gott 6'8" | C North Scott | 2024 State IA . Anthony plays club ball with the Iowa Barnstormers. Class of 2024, 6’7″ 210 and only 15. Great post up game and can really bang. Gott also has great handles for a big guy and can push the ball after a rebound. His two step Euro game and post moves will get any shot blocker off their feet and can finish well at the rim.
Stay tuned for my next article on the Top Hybrids. Then I will breakdown the Top Guards.
