Continue ReadingThe list of elite level prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) have transferred high schools continues to grow as prospects officially attend classes at a new school. Since our last installment of the Transfer Watch 2021 series, several more exceptionally talented area prospects have jumped to a different school for the 2021-22 academic year.
Among those highlighted in our twelfth review of transfers for 2021 is an elite Philadelphia native with multiple DI offers and an Inter-Ac standout who is changing schools.
Daniel Lans – 6’1” / Post Grad / Phelps School / Wing: Lans is a crafty and physical guard so he can get to his mid-range spots whenever he wants. However, Lans is an extremely versatile prospect so he can also knock down the three ball at a very high clip and score in transition. In 2020-21 Lans was a standout player (18 ppg.) on a St. Joseph’s Regional (Montvale, NJ) squad that only played 5 games. In summer 2021 Lans (NJ Beasts), simply destroyed the competition on the July circuit. At the Big Shots-Nationals tournament (SC) Lans led the team to the championship (5-0) while averaging 18 ppg. The highlight for Lans that weekend was a 27-point effort during which he splashed home 7 threes.
Sean “SJ” Hutchinson – 6’4” / Senior / Phelps School / Shooting Guard: This lefty excels at shooting the jumper off the dribble and owns range well beyond the 3-point line. Last season at Malvern Prep, Hutchinson scored a season high 21 points in a rout of Germantown Academy (82-64). Additionally, he netted 17 against the Haverford School on the strength of 5 three pointers made. During July 2021 this Philly Pride UAA standout displayed solid handles, excellent court vision and the ability to score in traffic. That trifecta allows Hutchinson to slide over to the point guard spot if needed.
Jeremiah Shepherd-Baker – 5’8” / Junior / Abington Friends School / Point Guard: Shepherd-Baker is a high IQ lead guard who has displayed good handles and court vision. One item that jumps out at you right away with Shepherd-Baker is the tenacious nature with which he competes at both ends of the court. He defines the “no plays off” mentality. In 2020-21 this super quick backcourt prospect balled at Hill-Freedman World Academy, which because of Covid only played 8 games last season. However, their limited schedule featured games versus excellent competition (Sankofa, Lincoln, Boys Latin, Maritime Charter, etc.). Shepherd-Baker averaged 11.5 points per game against that challenging list of opponents
Shawn Simmons – 6’6” / Junior / Hillcrest Prep (AZ) / Wing: In 2020-21 this Philadelphia native played at Life Center Academy (NJ) and prior to that he was a star at Friends Central (PA). Now Simmons is taking his talents out west to basketball factory Hillcrest Prep. The Bears are getting a player who can score from all three levels and owns an amazing ability to play above the rim. Simmons finishes everything at the cup by dunks or lay-ins through contact. Additionally, he possesses 3-point range on his jumper so he can stretch the floor. His athleticism, incredible length and impressive vertical leap allow Simmons to be an elite defender and a force on the glass. Simmons is a very unselfish player as well. He holds offers from Georgia, Georgetown, Butler, Pitt, Maryland, Xavier, and more.
