First of all, Prep Hoops can not wait for the high school season to start! Throughout the fall we will be previewing the upcoming season. In this article, we will be looking at players who will be new impact players on varsity. These guys may have played some varsity last season, but we expect them to stand out in 21-22. We will also have players that will be breaking into the varsity rotation for the first time. Read below for more info on the players from North Dakota and South Dakota who will be making a splash on varsity.

ND and SD FRESH FACES

(Players listed alphabetically)

[player_tooltip player_id="1161486" first="Alex" last="Proctor"] (2022) |6-1 G| Fargo Davies/ECI

Davies is deep and full of backcourt talent. One of the reasons for that is Mr. Procter. Alex is very athletic and a high-flyer. He is a gifted player with an exciting season ahead of him. Procter is great in the open court and he will thrive in the fast pace that the Eagles play. If you like electric dunks, tune into Davies games this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1144980" first="Braxton" last="Iglehart"] (2024) |6-1 PG| Garrison

He played well late last season and finished strong. Braxton had a great District-10 Championship game that showed what he can do. Expect Inglehart to take the next step and be a difference-maker all season for the Troopers. Braxton can handle the rock and shake defenders. He is a crafty player who passes it well and is a sneaky scorer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138812" first="Carter" last="Byron"] (2023) |6-5 PF| Grand Forks Red River

Take a look at this frontcourt Roughrider. He is athletic with strength and great bounce. Since last season Byron has improved his finishing at the cup and his offensive rebounding. Carter played varsity minutes this past season, but this year he has the potential to be a game-changer. Red River will be a tough EDC team and they will rely on Bryon for a huge inside presence.

[player_tooltip player_id="963749" first="Elliot" last="Whitney"] (2023) |6-0 SG| Sioux Falls Lincoln/Pentagon Schoolers

I expect Whitney to be an impact player for the Patriots, especially from beyond the arc. This season will be his first year playing varsity ball, and you should expect him to make a big splash. Elliot shoots the rock with ice in his veins. Whitney plays smart and he always seems to know when his team needs a big triple. Lincoln is deep with forwards and size, they will need Whitney to stretch the floor and keep the defense honest. Keep your eyes on the shooter from Lincoln.

[player_tooltip player_id="1270335" first="Jacoby" last="Mehrman"] (2024) Harrisburg |6’3 CG|

This young star will play huge minutes for the Tigers. Mehrman is a lefty that is very gifted offensively. He plays with great flow and understanding of where he is on the floor. I expect him to put up big numbers for Harrisburg. He is one of the players from SD that I would put at the top of my "watchlist", if I was you. Mehrman can score from all levels and he makes it look easy.

[player_tooltip player_id="1185116" first="Jacolby" last="Pearson"] (2022) |6’3 SG| Four Winds-Minnewaukan

He is a long smooth lefty that gets it done on both ends of the floor. Pearson will be one of the break-out players in Class B ND this year. His game is spectacular. Jacolby is ultra-smooth who plays with a great "basketball sense". He shoots it well, slashes amazingly, and finishes supremely. If you watch Pearson play for 2 minutes, you quickly see that he is a DUDE.

[player_tooltip player_id="1270366" first="Jaxson" last="Wingert"] (2024) |6’6 F| Dakota Valley/Arena Basketball Club

He boards up on the defensive glass. He fights for position on the other end which allows him to get put backs on offense. A tough matchup because he can stroke the 3-ball and do work on the block. Jaxson can stretch the floor and create space for teammates. On defense, Wingert will "wall-up" which forces the O-player to shooter over top. When he forces a miss Jaxson will finish the play with a rebound. I would envision him getting quality minutes for Dakota Valley this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="963748" first="Kaden" last="Year"] (2023) |6-5 F| Sioux Falls Jefferson/SD Attack

He had a great summer with SD Attack and improved his overall game. Look for Mr. Year to be an immediate impact player for Jefferson. Kaden can put up points and rebound consistently. Since the last high school season, Kaden has improved his strength in a big way. Keep track of Jefferson this year, [player_tooltip player_id="963748" first="Kaden" last="Year"] and [player_tooltip player_id="963741" first="Taylen" last="Ashley"] will be an excellent dynamic duo.

[player_tooltip player_id="1145107" first="Landon" last="Moser"] (2024) |6-0 G| Northern Cass/ND Attack

He had an impressive summer with attack and Landon will have high expectations coming into the year. He has the potential to be an All-Region 1 player. Moser will rise to the occasion and hit big shots when the game is on the line, he did that multiple times this summer. Landon is a smart player with all the tools to be great. Expect him to make a big impact drilling triples early in the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1176197" first="Mason" last="Bosse"] (2023) |5’11 G| Central Cass/Master Basketball Academy

Look for Mason to be a valuable asset for the Squirrels this season. He sees the floor well, plays the right way, and is a student of the game. CC is excited about his possibilities! Bosse’s court vision and great mid-range game have him primed to be a contributor in Casselton. He has an "old-school" vibe with smooth skills that make him a great team player.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138811" first="Reis" last="Rowekamp"] (2023) |6-2 G| Grand Forks Red River/ECI

He is another player that received varsity minutes last year. However, I expect him to take the next step and be a major contributor for Red River. His shot-making ability has continued to improve. Reis is a big shooting threat that will help keep the opposing team’s help-side honest. Rowekamp has the ability to be a high-end defender. Look for Reis to have RR competing for a top spot in the EDC.

[player_tooltip player_id="1144483" first="Ryan" last="Larson"] (2024) |6-3 G| Jamestown/Pentagon Schoolers

Larson had a stand-out summer with the Schoolers. The Blue Jays lost a good amount of talent to graduation and Larson will be ready to step in. He will be one of the best sophomores in the WDA. Ryan can hit the triple or slam it home after an athletic slash through the defense. With his size and athleticism, Ryan should be a tough defender for Jamestown.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138813" first="Trey" last="Wall"] (2023) |5-10 G| Enderlin

Look for Trey to step into a starting role for the Eagles who should be ranked #1 in the ND Class B preseason polls. He will be tasked with taking care of the ball and being one of the lead guards for Enderlin. He will also be looked upon to be a top perimeter defender. I expect him to stretch the floor and knock down perimeter shots. Trey will play a big part in the success that Enderlin has this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1272538" first="Tytan" last="Tryon"] (2024) |6-0 G| Harrisburg

Look for this youngster to get burn on varsity for the Tigers. He is an exciting player with a bright future. Harrisburg is full of young talent and they will be one of the more intriguing squads in SD. Look for Tytan to be a playmaker in AA this coming season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1213170" first="Vuciri" last="Hakim"] (2023) |6’4 SF| Fargo Shanley/Next Level Academy

He will come in as one of the more underrated players in the EDC. Hakim will have an eye-popping year for Shanley. He has size, athleticism, skills, and a great feel for the game. Vuciri can penetrate with precision and finish like a champ. I love how he catches at the high post, reverse pivots, and attacks the defense. Big things are coming for Hakim.
