Grit Region Finals: 2022 Guard Evaluations

The last weekend of summer AAU has come and gone and there was no better way to cap off the summer season than with the Grit Region Finals that took place in Indianapolis this past weekend. Team Future 2022 was crowned the Grit Region Finals champs for the 2022s and even though they had a good amount of performances for their own prospects, there were still a ton of top notch showings from our other Indiana prospects as well. Today, we take a look some 2022 guards that stood out.   Patrick Joyce – 6’1 PG – Bloomington South – IE Blaze Select 2022: Joyce is a smaller lead guard with a strong build. He can play on and off the ball but I believe his is at his best when he is in that floor general role. Keeps his head and body low on both ends and just flat out plays tough. Great passer and facilitator but can create a little and knocked down some shots himself. In the past, I saw him off the ball but with seeing him on the ball more here, I truly believe that he can be a reliable ball handler at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="1152148" first="Marco" last="Fitch"] – 6’0 PG – Bloomington North – IE Blaze Select 2022: Fitch had one of the best weekends that I have seen from him ever. Shorter lead guard but there are very few that can match his toughness. Great from behind the arc the entire weekend and also seemed to be the one to make those crucial plays for Blaze when they were needed. Just not a guy that is going to make a ton of mistakes and at the same time is going to leave it all on the floor until the final buzzer. Small colleges out there need to put Fitch on their radar this high school season because this guy can be difference maker. [player_tooltip player_id="1159613" first="Matt" last="Zdanowicz"] – 6’3 SG – Crown Point - Indiana Game 2022 Blue: Zdanowicz is a long shooting guard that can be very crafty at times. Can play on and off the ball and can score at all three levels. Pretty consistent from mid-range and in and did a nice job of finishing at the rime through contact and even converting the And1. When on the ball, he showed great court vision and had a couple of nice assists. Solid day for the bouncy, explosive guard. [player_tooltip player_id="1173731" first="Davis" last="Olson"] – 6’1 SG – North Central – Team Future 2022: Olson is a shooting guard with a long frame and lankiness. Excellent shooter from behind the arc and works hard off the ball to get an open look. Was one the better guards the entire weekend on both ends especially on the offense where he averaged 13 ppg in 4 games. Needs to get a little stronger but has the skill to compete. Could see a breakout season coming for Olson this fall. [player_tooltip player_id="870304" first="Jackson" last="Ullom"] – 5’10 PG – Monroe Central – Team Future 2022: Ullom is a shorter lead guard that has a strong build and always battles. Looked very balanced in the games I watched of his as he was scoring from inside and outside multiple times each game. Averaged a 11.5 ppg but came up big for Team Future in the Championship game with 14 points. Think he is also a little underrated when it comes to defense as he brings out that toughness on that end. No question that Ullom can play at that next level. [player_tooltip player_id="1143910" first="A.J." last="Roseman"] – 5’11 PG – Indianapolis Bishop Chatard – Team Future 2022: Roseman is a shorter lead guard that I have always been a fan of. Good amount of skill and just seems to have an act of making plays. Came up very clutch in key situations for Team Future on their way to the championship and was finding all sorts of ways to score. Averaged 11 ppg and also shot a smooth 58% from 3. Always has a high motor and is continuing to raise his stock. Expect a great high school season from him. [player_tooltip player_id="870309" first="Carter" last="St. John"] – 5’10 PG – Indianapolis Bishop Chatard – Team Future 2022: St. John is a shorter lead guard that is very reliable. Not necessarily an "electric" player but does all the little things right and makes very few mistakes. Defends well and had a few big steals in the games I watched. Pretty quick and physical about getting in the lane and is balanced about finishing or kicking out to the open man. Also has a nice floater as well. Natural lead guard that looked impressive this weekend. [player_tooltip player_id="1168147" first="Jordan" last="Turner"] – 6’4 PG/SG – Cardinal Ritter – EG10 2022: Turner is a combo guard that is skilled, quick, and physical. He is a playmaking guard that can score at all three levels but can also find ways to create for his teammates as well. Was easily the quickest lead guard on the floor in both games I watched of his and had a few nice plays where he would turn into a wide receiver, beat everyone down the floor, catch the long ball and score the easy layup. Also showed some solid shot blocking ability and a very high vertical. Has a couple of offers right now but I really think he is going to breakout his senior year and snag some more. [player_tooltip player_id="870293" first="Drew" last="Adzia"] – 5’9 PG – Crown Point – Indiana Game 2022: Adzia is a smaller point guard that arguably played the best out of any lead guard this past weekend. Easily was one of the best outside shooters of the entire weekend and I believe at one point he was like 7-7 in his first two games. Very consistent on defense and since he is not the biggest guard, he relies on his toughness and aggressiveness to make plays on that end. Drives hard and can finish as well. If you have seen Adzia play, you how good he is whereas if you have not, you are missing out on watching a very special player that knows how to play the game at a high level. Colleges need to start taking note of this guy.
