Turning Heads Over The Weekend

<p>Michigan continues to be well represented when it comes to prospects playing at a high level during this grassroots season. There were a number of prospects from the Great Lakes State that turned the heads of coaches, scouts, and fans over the weekend. We’ll take a look at some of those athletes. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1211160" first="Aiden" last="Burns"] (2022, SG, United Persuit, Pennfield)</strong></p> <p>Burns has shot well over the course of the entire grassroots season. It’s not a fluke. Shooters shoot, and that’s what Burns does. In fact, he’s probably one of the best in the state from behind the arc. There are a lot of conversations going on right now based on his shooting at Brawl For The Ball. </p> <p><strong>Matt Coffey (2022, F, Michigan Playmakers 17u, Mt. Clemens)</strong></p> <p>Coffey is a different player than a summer ago. He looks confident in himself and the player that he’s become. This weekend, he was a consistent and polished scorer. Coffey attacked the glass and sent the vibe that he could often be a double-double threat during high school season. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="985663" first="Prince" last="Jackson"] (2023, PG, DTO Elite)</strong></p> <p>If you ask me, Jackson has always been underrated. We’ll, this weekend with DTO Elite, at the UA Rise Session 2, he showed how dynamic his game can be. Jackson is a terrific passer that can pass a teammate open. His ability to take advantage of scoring opportunities and to dish the ball off at a high level has drawn attention in Texas. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="787618" first="Ty" last="Rodgers"] (2022, SF, MeanStreets, Grand Blanc)</strong></p> <p>On the biggest of stages, Rodgers has let his game shine. The best thing about it is that he doesn’t have to force the action to impress. He does so much well that doesn’t necessarily end up on the score sheets, but does show up in the eyes of coaches at the next level. In my opinion, Rodgers is showing why he might be a next level talent....after the next level. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1111926" first="Noah" last="Vanlaningham"] (2024, CG, Strictly Skills, Matawan)</strong></p> <p>Vanlaningham appeared on my radar way back simply because I noticed that he was ALWAYS in the gym. That gym time is paying off. This weekend, at Jam On It, he showed an impressive vertical speed up and down the court. He used his athleticism and court awareness to get good looks at the rim. Vanlaningham is a confident and effective shooter from behind the arc. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
