The three-day Showcase By the Beach, hosted by the Cali Rebels, Cali Stars and Gamepoint basketball clubs, was an excellent tune-up event before the start of the July evaluation period season. There were a number of players who stood out for various reasons. In this report, we talk about some of the top shooters in the gym over the weekend.

Showcase by the Beach: Top Shooters

Caden Harris, 6-5 2022 W, Players Play

A well-built sharpshooter, Harris is a deadly shooter off the catch who moves well without the ball and off of screens to get open. Harris’ release is elite: he needs very little space to get his shot off and uses jab steps effectively to create space to get his shot off. Defensively Harris does a great job playing the passing lanes to collect steals, and he can finish well above the rim in transition. He’s a big live period away from solidifying D1 interest.

[player_tooltip player_id="951246" first="Jed" last="Miller"], 6-2 2021 G, Cali Stars

A sharpshooter with innate scoring instincts, Miller can score it from all three levels and has a rapid-fire release. Cali Stars did an excellent job setting Miller up with elevator and flare screens and more often than not, Miller made opponents pay from deep.

[player_tooltip player_id="680242" first="Melo" last="Sanchez"], 6-4 2021 G, Veritas

Coming off of a D1 and regional championship, Sanchez, who is mystifyingly still unsigned, knocked down shots from every level this weekend. He was automatic from three off the catch, scored from the mid post either facing up or posting up smaller guards and finished around the basket.

Adam Hinton, 6-4 2021 G, BTI

Hinton, a recent Harvard Westlake grad, is headed to Exeter Prep (NH), where he will be a highly sought-after recruit for Patriot and Ivy League schools if this weekend is any indication. Always known as a very good catch-and-shoot prospect, Hinton’s dramatic improvement to his physique has opened up his game off the dribble, which he showed scoring off of straight line drives from the wing.

Jack Jillson, 5-10 2024 G, Gamepoint

This could very well go to his entire 15u team, which was one of the best shooting teams in the gym, but we will give it to Jillson, who torched opponents all weekend from deep and showed off some nifty ball handling and scoring off the drive that he didn’t necessarily display during his stellar freshman year at Mission Hills.

Carson Frincke, 6-4 2021 G, Gamepoint

It seems like every Gamepoint team has at least one guy who can be called on to finish a set play with a deep three. This year, it’s Frincke, who is headed to a postgraduate year at Balboa School. Frincke has a quick release and moves well without the ball, and an underrated quality is that he is able to quickly square himself to the hoop on the move.
