I had a chance to check out the Gold Crown High School Team Camp this past weekend. Here is a list of my top forwards from the camp.:

[player_tooltip player_id="973003" first="Cole" last="Records"] | 6’5" JR. | F | Regis Jesuit

Records is a versatile forward who has good athleticism and can play above the rim. While one of the most apparent aspects of Records game is his leaping ability he is not a flashy, soft player. He likes to do the dirty work and plays hard nosed defense. He affects shots on the defensive end and hits the boards on both ends of the floor. He hustles and runs the floor well and can finish with the best of them. He is also a very good passer and is not a selfish player at all. I really like Records all round game! He also has the body frame to add muscle and if he get’s more consistent from midrange can really develop into a next level prospect. Records is one to watch as he is heading into his junior year and I expect this is not the last time you will her his name. Excited to see how Records develops!

[player_tooltip player_id="1139561" first="Ben" last="Rau"] | 6’4" JR. | F | Rock Canyon

Rau is another player who has the ability to really develop into a next level player. He is a very physical, tough player and uses his body extremely well. He also is very adept at rebounding on both ends of the floor and is a workhorse! Every coach loves this type of player because he is a commanding force and can really utilize his toughness to help his team establish that inside dominance and set the tone defensively. He has good footwork and clearly has been hitting the weight room, but has the body type where he could add even more muscle which would make him a tough guard for any team. With some more time in the gym working on his midrange game Rau could develop into a next level prospect. As he heads into his junior year of High School I will be keeping my eye on his development!

[player_tooltip player_id="1141754" first="Braxton" last="Jones"] | 6’6" SR. | F | Rock Canyon

Jones is a fun player to watch for many reasons. He plays tough on both ends of the floor, blocks shots, scores, dishes out assists, and has a nice midrange game. I was impressed with Jones overall game. He lead his team to the championship game of the team camp and it was in that game where I really noticed his intensity and ability to bring it when the lights shined brightest. He has nice leaping ability and can play above the rim. There is really nothing Jones can’t do. With some added muscle to his long 6’6" frame he should have no issue playing on the next level. I’m excited to see how his senior season unfolds and where Jones ends up playing his college ball!

Caleb Whitehead | 6’5" SR. | F | Fountain Fort Carson

Whitehead is another forward to keep an eye on heading into his senior season. He is what I like to call an all purpose player. He does everything his team needs. Whether it’s coming up with a timely steal, a block shot, a defensive stop, or a much needed bucket Whitehead delivers. He plays both ends of the floor and has a motor that doesn’t stop. As a coach I really appreciate players who have this type of intensity because you either have it or you don’t, and Whitehead has it! Whitehead has a nice outside game and can really finish inside against taller defenders, very crafty. He also dishes out assists at a clip that is better than some guards. As I said earlier he is an all-purpose player and one to watch this upcoming season. I expect this is not the last time we hear Whiteheads name!

     [player_tooltip player_id="618872" first="Micah" last="Leslie"] | 6’4" SR. | F | Mullen High School

Leslie was another one of my top performers this weekend. Leslie is also a stretch forward and even plays guard at times because of his versatility. He has good footwork and an ability to get around his defender and finish at the bucket. At his size and ability to handle the ball he is constantly putting pressure on the defense. On the defensive end of the floor he keeps himself in front of his player and does not let them have much room to operate and blocked several shots. He also holds down the rebounding duties despite being one of his teams leading scorers. He is definitely a player to keep an eye out for as his senior year of High School is beginning.
