The best players in the state were on display here and a few of them were able to snag some offers here due to their great showing. Today, we a look a look at and evaluate the players that made up Team Orange from session two.
Mason Jones Mason Jones 6'7" | PF Valparaiso | 2023 State IN – 6’7 PF 2023 Valparaiso: Jones is a taller, strong power forward with a good amount of skill and talent. Very physical playing style and actually has a ton of speed and energy. Got to see him play on the ball quite a bit here and looked pretty solid playing the point-forward spot. Got to the basket fairly easily and was finishing with a ton of power and even had a thunderous one-handed slam. Jones looked really good here.
Brycen Hannah – 6’4 SF 2023 John Glenn: Hannah is a big wing that plays hard in the paint. Real strong lower body and goes up for rebounding with a lot of force on both ends. Very solid scorer around the post as well. He was not the quickest guy on the floor but was easily one of the strongest.
Braden Walters Braden Walters 6'6" | PF Terre Haute North | 2024 State IN – 6’5 SF 2024 Linton-Stockton: Walters is an athletic and taller wing. Was one of the younger players here but you could tell that there is some potential in this player. Showed a little quickness going north and south and actually was a really solid rebounder. Did not see a whole lot of his jumper 15ft and out here so curious to see what that looks like long term. Maybe needs to be a little more aggressive but overall there is a high ceiling for Walters.
Jayden Pinkston Jayden Pinkston 6'6" | PF Southport | 2023 State IN – 6’6 PF 2023 Tindley: Pinkston is an athletic 4 with bounce and a good amount of speed in the lane. Has a long and lanky frame that he knows how to utilize especially on the glass. Jumper looks like like it has improved a little bit. You can just tell by watching him, how talented he is and can easily be one of the standouts in the 2023 class.
Brady Dunn – 6’2 PG 2022 Christian Academy: Dunn is a taller lead guard with a balanced game for the most part. A true lead guard before anything and made some real sharp passes that led to buckets. Was impressed with his pullup 3 game as well. Was one of the more lesser known players on his team but did some things out there that helped contribute for them.
Ashton Johnson Ashton Johnson 6'2" | PG Fort Wayne South | 2022 State IN – 6’2 PG 2022 Fort Wayne South Side: Johnson is a big and strong lead guard. Drives very well and uses his strength to his advantage when he is driving through contact. Distributes well like a point guard should. Also is a very aggressive rebounder and can box out the bigger players as well.
Luke Carroll Luke Carroll 6'5" | SF Hamilton Heights | 2022 State IN – 6’5 SF 2022 Hamilton Heights: Carroll is a big a wing with a ton of athleticism. He is flashy player that can make all the highlight plays like this no look pass he had on a fastbreak. Real tough on the defensive end and has some solid shot blocking ability. Other than his no look pass, his best play of the day was when he showed off his athletic ability and converted a nice ally-oop finish. Carroll’s stock could be on the rise here.
Jake Chapman Jake Chapman 6'3" | SF Tri-Central | 2022 State IN – 6’3 SF 2022 Tri-Central: Chapman is a strong wing that is a little underrated. Had a little scare when he went down grabbing his knee during the drills but luckily was able to shake it off and play in the live games. Shot the 3-ball very well and was firing them off quickly and with confidence. Was not the highest ranked player there but played his tail off.
Josiah Dunham Josiah Dunham 6'0" | PG Evansville Christian | 2024 State IN – 6’0 PG 2024 Evansville Christian: Dunham is a lead guard that can battle. Sees the floor real well and has a high IQ when he has the ball in his hands. Real quick and used his speed to get in the paint and snag a few rebounds. He looked to be a true lead guard that can run an offense at the next level.
Tyler Myers – 5’10 PG 2023 Evansville Day: Myers is a shorter lead guard that sees the floor well. He mostly stuck to doing true lead guard things but actually has a real nice 15ft pullup jumper. Defensive minded player and plays “in your face” type of defense. Was playing hard when he was on the floor and was flat out doing everything he could to contribute.
Will Lovings-Watts Will Lovings-Watts 6'5" | SF Jeffersonville | 2022 State IN – 6’5 SF 2022 Jeffersonville: Lovings-Watts is an athletic wing that has really improved his game. Still stuck to his strength of driving and finishing nearly every time at the rim. His jumper has looked to have improved a bit as he got out of his comfort zone of playing at the rim and tried to score 15ft and out. Was locked in on defense and is starting to prove that he can be a guy that brings the toughness on the defensive end. Still needs some more development, but Lovings-Watts is on the right track here.
