June has been a busy month for South Florida basketball players.

With the NCAA dead period lifted, prospects from around the area have been receiving offers from schools around the country. Furthermore, it has given exposure for others to showcase their skills and garner interest.

Here is a look at some headlines..

[player_tooltip player_id="963310" first="Sami" last="Elkamel"] - Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="963310" first="Sami" last="Elkamel"] has received interest from East Tennessee State, Western Carolina, South Dakota State, IUPUI, Princeton and Harvard. The 6-foot-8 forward runs with SOH Elite. Elkamel has solid frontcourt size at 220 pounds and finishes well around the basket. I expect him to be a tough rebounder as well given his frame. Elkamel should continue to blossom at one of the top programs in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] - Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Academy

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] got a wave of good news this past week. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard picked up offers from Memphis, FAU, Appalachian State, South Florida and Iona. Cherenfant is now listed as a 4-star recruit by various services. I’m not surprised at the rush for the Calvary Christian Academy star. I thought he played really well during the Eagles Class 3A championship run up in Lakeland. Over his final three state games, Cherenfant combined for 47 points and went 15-of-24 (63 percent) from the floor. He is strong attacking the basket and continues to improve on his jump shot. He announced he will be running with the Georgia Stars after a great spring with Team Florida. His high school teammate, 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709215" first="Marvel" last="Allen"], also picked up additional offers from Clemson and Alabama. The 6-foot-4 combo guard appears to be cementing himself as a top 10 recruit in the Class of 2023.

[player_tooltip player_id="709251" first="Nate" last="Sasser"] - Suncoast

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709251" first="Nate" last="Sasser"] earned an offer from Florida Gulf Coast after participating in the school’s camp event last week. The 6-foot-6 small forward has also been in contact with Arkansas. Sasser is going to be tough to stop in Palm Beach County. Not many players have the mix of his size and athleticism up in that area. I fully expect Sasser to put up double-double numbers for the Chargers next season. Sasser and 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1053915" first="Stone" last="Bureau"] should have Suncoast in state contention.

Shon Abaev - Miami Country Day

2025 Shon Abaev also earned an offer from Florida Gulf Coast after showcasing his skills at the school’s camp. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 16.2 points per game and has a deadly stroke. He joins Miami Counry Day 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709245" first="Jasai" last="Miles"] with a "dunk city" offer. Abeav runs with SOH Elite.

[player_tooltip player_id="953479" first="Joey" last="Brown"] - Florida Christian

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="953479" first="Joey" last="Brown"] committed to Iowa Wesleyan. The 6-foot-3 point guard averaged over 14 points per game and was named 1st Team all Miami-Dade County. Brown helped Florida Christian to a 17-5 record, including wins over Miami Norland and Westminster Christian.
