Damonte Pellot Damonte Pellot 6'3" | PG North Cobb | 2023 State GA , 6-1, SG, SBT, 2023 (pictured above, North Cobb)
Playing up with the 2022s lately Pellot has not only shown he belonged up a level but has frankly proven he is one of the ATL-Metro’s top sleeper risers, when he’s not leading the 17U’s in scoring he’s doing other things to help you win games, but his scoring ability from multiple levels is what’s going to stand out most games as he has been handling the point a lot and getting downhill with his quickness off the bounce, he can easily slide over to the wing and use his speed and creativity to dice up a defense, was a huge factor in regulation and OT in helping SBT capture the 17U crown, part of an exciting 2023 group at NCHS that will combine with outstanding 2022 forward Alex Acosta Alex Acosta 6'5" | PF North Cobb | 2022 State GA to form a fascinating bunch in Kennesaw.
Trey Harris Trey Harris 6'4" | SF North Paulding | 2022 State GA , 6-5, SG, SBT, 2022 (North Paulding)
SBT features a slew of guys who are set to make big impressions both the rest of the summer and into their HS seasons (Harrison’s Zack Cepress among the others, who was tremendous in the 17U final victory), Harris is clearly one of those as he’s always had a level of talent that often made you say “wow” but it appears he’s ready for another step, already one of the state’s best shooters from long-range he’s added an aggressive driving game that has produced highlight-reel dunks and finishes both in the halfcourt and coming in above the rim off the break, that element together with his shooting and good size elevates his status to next-level programs in my view.
Kyree Boone, 5-10, PG, CP Rimrockers, 2023 (South Atlanta)
The leader of a really fun and spirited bunch of guys who knocked off a really good NWGA Raptors team in the scintillating OT 16U final for the ages, speed, speed and more speed highlights the package for Boone who was a blow-by machine on the offensive end and a terror on-ball defender on the defensive end, slid between scoring PG and distributor effortlessly and got to the rack, knocked down 3’s and showed off nice vision on the attack.
Ryan Robinson, 6-2, SG, CP Rimrockers, 2023 (Carver Early College)
A monster bucket-getter who lit up the 16U final with 25 impressive points, fits the role of slasher to a T as he used his long frame to cut up the high-level Raptors defense and was just on fire, had some above the rim highlights to go with a nice mid-range jumper game and his hustle particularly on defense stood out (as it did for all the Rimrockers), yet another under the radar talent who needs to be on the floor this coming live period to show off a nice versatile skillset.
Jayquan Nelson, 6-0, PG, NWGA Raptors, 2023 (Rome)
A First-Team All-PG selection if there was such a thing, going head to head with Kyree Boone of CP Rimrockers was impressive, love this batch of talented athletes from Northwest GA led by Nelson, there wasn’t much Nelson couldn’t do as he handled relentless pressure from the Rimrockers and had 17 points in the classic 16U final, tremendous burst up the floor with the ball and is a serious finisher as he gets up near the rim, plenty of shooting range and showed off excellent on-ball defending.
Danny Sanders, 6-0, CG, Team Impact, 2022 (Woodstock)
Every time I looked down for a minute and then up from my notebook it seemed Sanders was doing something scrappy or positive to help his team against Rome Elite late on Sunday, he was a nuisance on defense, kept getting into the lane for short conversions, knocked down J’s when given space, and both handled the ball and played off the wing throughout the game, not going to wow you with measurables or getting off the bus, but was just sound and played scrappy, high-IQ ball all game.
