KANSAS CITY — Park Hill South ran away with this third-place contest at the William Jewell Tournament in a contest that featured a host of future college players. Jacob Kline led the way for Park Hill South with 13 points, while Connor Lee added 10 points.
MVP: Connor Lee (Park Hill South). A 6’3 2017 forward, Park Hill’s Connor Lee led both teams with eight rebounds and was second on the Panthers with 10 points. He has a smooth mid-range jumper and battles inside for an undersized Park Hill South squad.
Offensive Player of the Game: Jacob Kline (Park Hill South). Kline led all scorers with 13 points, knocked down three 3-pointers and played tough defense on Oak Park’s perimeter players. He also hooked up with a teammate on pick-and-roll passes several times throughout the contest.
Defensive Player of the Game: Ochai Agbaji (Oak Park). A versatile and strong defender, Agbaji helped Oak Park hold Lamel Robinson to eight points on 3 of 10 shooting. Agbaji didn’t have his best day at the offensive end of the court, but at the defensive end, he finished with four blocks and a pair of steals.
Best shooter: Jacob Kline (Park Hill South). A 5’10 2017 guard, Kline can really shoot it and was on his game throughout this one, going 3 for 4 from 3, 4 for 7 from the field and 2 for 2 from the free throw line.
Best rebounder: Connor Lee (Park Hill South). A 6’3 2017 forward, Lee finished this one with eight boards. He was big on the offensive glass, pulling in four rebounds and also finished the contest with 10 points.
Best passer: Lamel Robinson (Park Hill South). One of the state’s top players in the Class of 2019, Robinson plays with poise and helps get the Panthers into its offense. He is a terrific passer and scorer.
Best underclassman: Desi Williams (Park Hill South). A 5’9 2019 point guard, Williams, Robinson and Kline form quite a trio of guards in the backcourt for the Panthers. He was 3 for 3 from behind the 3-point arc and finished with nine points.
Best bench player: CJ Lee (Park Hill South). A 6’3 post player, Lee finished with nine points and four rebounds in just 12 minutes of play.
Name to remember: Saadique Perkins (Park Hill South). Perkins is a long guard that excels at both ends of the floor. He handed out a game-high five assists and finished with eight points on 4 of 4 shooting.
Play of the Game: Park Hill South defense held a solid Oak Park team to just 36 points and bottled up its guard tandem of Ochai Agbaji and Kaden Evans, holding the duo to 10 total points. Oak Park was 0 for 14 from 3 and shot 29 percent from the field for the game.
