The Comets Shootout 17U players who used St. Cloud to raise their prospect status and why. Our Prep Hoops list.

[player_tooltip player_id="1143876" first="Nick" last="Burke"] of WOTN (6’5 Forward, 2022). Why? Burke is a confident scorer. A nice touch with range that scored 70 points in four games at the Shootout. Pushed his team to the final four scoring 17.5 points a contest making him one of the weekend leaders.

Lewis Cargoer of Park Center (6’6 PF, 2022). Why? Lewis is bigger than I thought, has surely become stronger, and his a better defender than I was aware of. Did a great job defending for Get Shook inside and out. Moved around ball screens well and did a great job as the press point man. Quick off his feet to finish explosively as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="958646" first="Jasper" last="Hedin"] of Minnesota Comets (6’5 Wing, 2022). Why? Jasper was the most consistently productive player for the Comets and he has scholarship level agility. The biggest thing though is the skill improvement which made him the most productive player on the Comets who won three of four.

[player_tooltip player_id="850735" first="Brady" last="Helgren"] of Minnesota Fury (6’9 PF/C, 2022). Why? Helgren has always shown the face-up comfort as a skilled player that can shoot the ball or use a dribble but this weekend we saw Helgren also score with his back to the basket and scoring physically against contact. Could play both spots at the next level, maybe a Rocky Kreuser type?

[player_tooltip player_id="958680" first="Kyle" last="Hrncir"] of WOTN (6’5 Forward, 2022). Why? Consistency. Kyle has the skills to play the three but the strength and activity to play some four as well. Shot a high percentage all weekend and scored with the jumper, with the attack, with his back to the bucket, and mixed in a ton of active buckets. Really productive.

[player_tooltip player_id="958652" first="Makuei" last="Riek"] of Minnesota Heat MacDonald (6’6 SF, 2022). Why? Riek has the mindset of an alpha scorer and we are starting to see that Riek may have the game for it as well. He was a first team all event player because Riek hit so many big shots leading his team in scoring for the weekend and doing it with a really good touch at 6-foot-6. He scored off a dribble, off a fake, off a fake into a pull-up, and with feet set. He’s taken a big step and could take another and become a really nice prospect. The ceiling is high, keep an eye on Riek. Surely scholarship potential, possibly D1 potential.

[player_tooltip player_id="958669" first="Kenji" last="Scales"] of Minnesota Select (6’1 Guard, 2022). Why? Scales just had one of the greatest performances in Comets Shootout title game history. Those four quick threes and six threes total led to 22 points giving Select a lead they never gave back. Scales can handle too but the shooting stroke is way too tempting to put on the wing as the shot is pure. NSIC/High MIAC level combo guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="958691" first="Logan" last="Schmidt"] of Fury Narum (6’8 Center, 2022). Why? Schmidt scored on some good center prospects this weekend and he did it was excellent footwork and getting the leverage to turn into makes. Schmidt is definitely a more advanced prospect than I think people are aware of.

[player_tooltip player_id="958639" first="Johnny" last="Tennyson"] of Minnesota Comets (6’4 Guard, 2022). Why? Tennyson can play both guard positions, has excellent handles, and was able to make open shots and contested shots alike. A combo guard at the next level who I think could be either an NSIC talent or a top MIAC prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="1143878" first="Leo" last="Torbor"] of Minnesota Select (6’3 Guard, 2022). Why? Torbor’s athletic ability gives him the type of potential that will put Leo on recruiting target lists of schools. So quick with the ball in his hands plus the agility/explosiveness to be an elite defender and a big time transition finisher.

[player_tooltip player_id="958681" first="Brayden" last="Williams"] of Minnesota Rise (6’3 Guard, 2022). Why? Good size. Excellent handles. A ton of shake. And so so so much feel for the game. One of the tougher players to guard at the event, Williams has an ability to playmake in situations where hope isn’t high. There is no telling what way he will attack or when he will get to his second, or third move. Excellent shooter and he can make shots from so many angles. Scored 63 points this weekend finishing 11 threes.
