Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
A lightning quick guard who puts constant pressure on opposing teams on both ends of the floor with his IQ and speed, McCain had 15 points on 6-14 shooting (1-2 3P, 2-2 FT), 4 rebounds, and 2 steals in the Vikings’ comeback win over Waverly-Shell Rock on Friday night. He handles the ball really well and is able to get to the rim going either direction. He shoots it well from the mid-range and while he doesn’t look to shoot it from 3 often, he is a good perimeter shooter as well. An athletic guard who will compete on the glass, he also is a solid defender, especially on the ball.

A lightning-quick guard who puts constant pressure on opposing teams with his speed on both ends of the floor, McCain made some huge plays in the fourth quarter of Decorah’s comeback win over Hudson, taking over the game on both ends of the floor when the Vikings needed him. He didn’t have a great shooting night overall (5-15 FG, 0-4 3P), but he found other ways to contribute until it was his time to shine, finishing with 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals with no turnovers. He has a great feel for the game, is a really good ball-handler, and he has an explosive first step that he uses to blow by defenders and get to the cup.

of Decorah High School registered 18 Points and 15 Assists in his teams 109-44 win the other night. As you can tell, this team likes to play free and fast. The coaches trust in the players on the floor and because of that, they have had a good amount of success to start this winter at 4-0. As for McCain, in this specific contest he was setting his teammates up each play and being the leader that everyone knows. As it goes for point guards throughout the state that lead by example, McCain is one of the best. He has a good head on his shoulders and that was on full display in this contest. Going into winter break, the back half of this teams schedule becomes more difficult but if they keep on trusting in each other, they are going to be just fine.
