Height, length, and athletic ability are a huge part of basketball. That’s probably the easiest statement I can ever make. It’s always nice to be a 6-foot-5 guard or 6-foot-9 forward in high school.

However, that is not always the case. The following are some of the best prospects I saw that fits the criteria.

[player_tooltip player_id="818660" first="Jonathan" last="Renois"] - Somerset Academy - Pines

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="818660" first="Jonathan" last="Renois"] might be the best example of a prospect that gets the most out of his stature. The 5’11/6’ combo guard has great body control and can finish through contact at the rim. I saw him multiple times finish at the basket without giving the ball away in these moments. Moreover, his craftiness with either hand made him a bucket in layup situations. He averaged 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists on 46 percent shooting from the field. Furthermore, his ability to contribute on the glass is a result of his athleticism and motor. He recorded six games with six or more boards and had 74 total on the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1065430" first="Rick" last="Daniels"] - North Miami

I am a big fan of Daniels as a steady floor leader for the Pioneers. The 6-foot point guard averaged 7.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.7 steals on 50 percent shooting from the field. Moreover, Daniels recorded five or more assists in seven games. I thought his vision and decision making was solid throughout the season. His role will likely increase as North Miami loses three of their five top scorers to graduation. Daniels, 2022 Odley Francois and 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1164250" first="Derrick" last="Edouard"] give them a good amount of depth in the backcourt.

Josh Fernandez - Coral Park

2022 Josh Fernandez returns with fellow classmate Ray Perez to form a solid backcourt for the Rams. The 6-foot guard averaged 13.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 45 percent shooting from the field. Moreover, Fernandez went 26-of-71 (37 percent) from deep this season. His 36 points on 15-of-19 from the floor against Jackson shows his offensive explosiveness.

Oscar Sanchez - Braddock

2023 Oscar Sanchez helped Braddock to a 11-8 record this season. The 5-foot-9 point guard averaged 11.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 54 percent shooting from the field. On the perimeter, Sanchez shot an impressive 46 percent (32-of-69). He recorded a pair of 16-point games against Southwest and went 8-of-15 from deep.

[player_tooltip player_id="829513" first="Nicholas" last="Mate"] - Florida Christian

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829513" first="Nicholas" last="Mate"] displayed his shooting stroke for the Patriots this season. The 5-foot-10 guard averaged nine points and two assists on 44 percent shooting from the field. Moreover, Mate went 48-of-121 from deep this season. The high octane pace by Florida Christian shows Mate’s athleticism and skill set. This team will run n' gun you for 32 minutes. Against North Broward Prep, he scored 20 points and went 6-of-9 from the perimeter. He will return next season on a team that went 17-5 overall.
