Michael Roth | Prep Hoops Scout
Norton is another prospect who played his best basketball late with a big time showing at Flyin To The Hoop and a 40+ point performance on senior night to go over 1,000 career points. Norton is a solid athlete who can really shoot it from the outside and makes some impressive live-dribble passes. Playing this spring with Wildcat Select, Norton will have another opportunity to show coaches from a variety of levels what he can do. I think Norton should be in a similar situation as Ray is in, getting interest from a variety of levels including scholarship, JUCO and post grad options.

Norton is a prospect who just keeps rising recently and could be due for a rankings increase during the final update after the OHSAA season wraps up. Norton impressed at our Top 250 Expo back in the fall and had a huge game at Flyin To The Hoop in front of numerous college coaches. Norton is a good athlete, can really shoot it from the outside and is a solid secondary playmaker. With his recent rise he’s gaining interest from programs at a variety of levels including scholarship and Division III opportunities. Recently gone over the 1,000 point mark, check out if Hudson can lead Taft to defend their state championship this March.

Norton was a standout at the Prep Hoops 250 Expo and has continued that with an impressive senior high school season. His most impressive outing that I saw came at Flyin To the Hoop when he caught fire from downtown. Norton followed that up with 47 points against Withrow on senior night to go above 1,000 career varsity points. Norton is trending up and could be making another jump in our final rankings that will come out after the state tournament. Very high on Division III recruiting boards, Norton should also be getting heavy scholarship interest based off his play over the past month.

Maybe the prospect who made the most noise in any early morning game all weekend, Norton had his first and second career 20+ point games for Taft in a three day span. After dropping 25 points in a blowout over Aiken, Norton shot the lights out against Brush for five 3-pointers and 22 points. Norton has solid size and athleticism from the wing guard position and is getting recruited by Division III programs while also getting looks from scholarship programs as well. If you are looking for a wing guard who can knock down open shots, provide some passing ability and some athletic pop then Norton might be the guy for you.

I saw Norton first play at the PrepHoops Ohio Top 250 Expo and I was really impressed with his skill and see how he would fit in at Taft. He fits in great. Gives them a shooting threat that creates space. Confident kid. Once his shots start falling he goes to the rim more. The kid has good size. I like what I saw from him on Friday night.

Maybe the biggest eye opener of the event for me, Norton looked much improved in a setting that allowed him to create for himself. Norton was showing off his improved off the bounce creation game and made a lot of tough mid-range jumpers. I also thought Norton looked more explosive than I’ve previously seen of him, throwing down a couple easy dunks in the final game of the day. Norton really improved his stock at this event and will debut in our 2023 rankings during the next update after this performance.

Norton is a player of extreme confidence. He was heard talking all game and it was to pump himself and his teammates up. He has a swagger with his game that he is the best player on the court. Some say that is a negative I view it as a positive, especially for a player like Norton. He is a shooter and shooters need confidence. He is best off the dribble shooting but can spot up. His shooting requires a lot of attention and he uses that to make good passes to his teammates. He also is sneaky and athletic. Good size and threw down a fast break dunk in the game I saw.

Norton came to play on Saturday and put on a show in the game I watched. Scoring potential is through the roof with perimeter shooting and explosive drives. Buried multiple 3’s off the dribble and excelled on the catch-and-shoot situations. Norton could see his recruitment grow as I see NAIA programs going after the Taft product.
