The postseason is officially underway in the Lone Star State! I had the opportunity to attend three 6A Region 1 playoff matchups. The Coppell Cowboys cruised to a 64-46 victory over the Allen Eagles on Saturday, the North Crowley Panthers won an overtime thriller vs. the Keller Central Chargers 50-45 on Monday, and the Lake Highlands Wildcats defeated the Arlington Lamar Vikings 61-51 on Tuesday.

Here are six standout guard prospects from the Bi-District round:

[player_tooltip player_id="889576" first="Anthony" last="Black"] | 2022 | 6’6’’ Combo Guard | Coppell HS - Black is one of the most fascinating high school athletes in the country, holding numerous offers from Power Five schools for both basketball and football. He dominated at both ends on Saturday, putting together an outstanding all-around performance. The two-sport prospect hit a three, was virtually unstoppable in the paint, and attacked off the dribble with great success. He also distributed the ball well and turned back shots with regularity. Black ended the contest with 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Remon Tuck | 2021 | 5’8’’ Point Guard | North Crowley HS - Tuck is an excellent facilitator and a gritty defender. I was very impressed with his decision making and decisiveness as a passer on Monday. He made timely plays down the stretch on offense and defense, highlighted by a catch-and-shoot three in the final minute of the fourth quarter that helped the Panthers claw their way back into the game and force overtime. Additionally, the senior floor general showed off his quickness and ball-handling ability with some flashy dribbling throughout the night.

[player_tooltip player_id="1125969" first="Tre" last="Johnson"] | 2024 | 6’5’’ Shooting Guard | Lake Highlands HS - Johnson is incredibly poised for a freshman. He started the game for the Wildcats and made some key plays in the second half that allowed his team to remain in control of the game, including knocking down a dagger three-pointer in the final minutes of the fourth quarter that put Lake Highlands in front by double digits. The 2024 guard is a talented all-around scorer and a fearless shooter from both mid-range and behind the arc. He is a solid playmaker as well. This is a guy that needs to be on your radar if he isn’t already.

[player_tooltip player_id="779904" first="Mason" last="Gibson"] | 2021 | 6’1’’ Combo Guard | Allen HS - Although Allen was unable to upset Coppell in the opening round, Gibson was still his usual self on offense, providing his team with playmaking and crafty finishes at the basket. His shiftiness off the bounce and body control at the rim make him an exciting player to watch. He is a capable three-point shooter too, but wisely does not fall in love with the three ball regardless of whether or not his shots are falling. The senior guard finished the final game of his high school career with 13 points.

Elijah Powers | 2022 | 5’8’’ Shooting Guard | Arlington Lamar HS - Powers is a dynamic shot-maker from behind the arc. He drained three triples vs. Lake Highlands, all of which were extremely difficult looks from the floor. He possesses deep range and is comfortable shooting from the catch or off the dribble. His ability to hit off-balance shots is also noteworthy. Beyond that, the junior two-guard made some brilliant plays in transition, finishing over taller defenders and dropping off assists to trailing teammates.

DaeVeon Scott | 2022 | 6’3’’ Point Guard | Keller Central HS - Scott came out on fire vs. North Crowley on Monday, scoring the first seven points of the contest. Keller Central’s lead guard showed that he could score from all three levels. He displayed good touch by burying some deep floaters early in the game. On defense, Scott forced several turnovers and was very productive on the glass. He accounted for 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
