Tate Brown, junior, Manhattan:
The Indians eventually fell to Washburn Rural. But Brown was on fire in the first half, helping make the contest close to the end. Brown hit for 12 first half points and finished with 14.
Mateo Hyman Mateo Hyman 6'2" | CG Seaman | 2022 State KS and Ty Henry Ty Henry 6'3" | SG Seaman | 2022 State KS , juniors, Seaman:
This guard tandem can be downright dynamite at times. They were on Friday, combining for 43 points in a pretty balanced effort against Lansing. They have different skill sets, but are equally effective getting into the lane for shots, finding teammates, and handling the ball all over the court.
Howard Johnson Howard Johnson 6'0" | SG Junction City | 2022 State KS , junior, Junction City (pictured):
Finally healthy, Johnson got back to his impressive ways, racking up 18 points in a tough overtime win over Emporia Thursday. When at full strength, Johnson is a high-quality play-making guard. He can shoot from anywhere, create his own shot, get to the goal, and helps his team by rebounding, defending and finding open shooters. He came back with 15 against Topeka West on Saturday.
Jahi Peppers Jahi Peppers 5'9" | CG Highland Park | 2021 State KS , senior, Highland Park:
Somewhat quiet of late, the mercurial guard got back to his old self on Saturday with 11 buckets and 25 points against Junction City.
Charles Snyder Charles Snyder 6'5" | PF Emporia | 2021 State KS , senior, Emporia:
Though the Spartans haven’t won many games this year, Snyder continues to battle. He is averaging 19 points and 9 boards, and is one of the state’s leaders in all-out effort. He tossed in 21 against Junction City Thursday.
Josh Williams, senior, Washburn Rural:
The rock-solid ball handler of the Junior Blues doesn’t always produce a ton of points. But was he ever hot to start both halves of the win at Manhattan Friday. He opened each half with a couple of big buckets to set the tone. He finished with 13 in the tight victory.
Everyone at Topeka West:
They have so many weapons, and someone different can step up at any moment. Take your pick. (The Chargers clinched the league title, by the way. Big surprise.)
