With the high school basketball regular season still on hold in California, various grassroots events have popped up to help fill the temporary void. One of those events has been the Hoops 2.0 Showcases that have had a couple of different weekend events.

The most recent of those was this past weekend and the event featured a lot of top CA talent. Here’s a look at some of the top standouts from the event.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="971258" first="Braedyn" last="Benhard"] - Foothill 2022

Benhard is a solid stretch big man. He’s got shooting range out to the three-point line. He’s very mobile and he can run the floor well in transition. He moves well without the ball, makes strong cuts to the rim and he can finish strong over the defense. He’s comfortable in the post as well. He’s patient and doesn’t force anything. He’s got a nice touch around the rim and has a good-looking hook shot.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="747091" first="Jaylen" last="Carter"] - Manual Arts 2021

Carter is one of the absolute best unsigned seniors in Southern California. He’s a natural wing with some playmaking ability. I’ve seen him play before, but what really stood out this showcase was his lethal midrange shot. He can get to the rim and he can shoot from three but that midrange jumper was looking automatic. Gets to his spots on the court with no wasted dribbles. Can certainly help a team at the next level.

3. Alex Davis - Yorba Linda 2021

Davis is a pretty mobile forward with a strong motor. He’s solid in the paint and uses his strength well to finish strong. He’s got good body control. He goes up hard at the rim and he follows his misses on the offensive glass. Pretty solid rebounder who boxes out well. He can draw contact and get himself to the free-throw line where he shoots well. He can hit a nice little fadeaway in the paint.

4. Colin Huang - Portola 2023

Huang is a solid guard prospect. He’s got strong court vision; runs the offense well. He pushes the pace well and makes the right reads. He’s solid in the halfcourt too; he can find teammates cutting around the rim. Plays his role and stays within his game. He’s a pretty solid defensive player and he can force turnovers leading to transition opportunities.
