Uncommonly Masterful Freshmen: Chapter Three
November marked the debut for the 2024 class. Much has been made of the 2023’s. Who will be at the crest of the next wave of talent splashing down upon TSSAA?
Clint Seymore (Loretto)
Perennial Class A juggernauts, Loretto High managed to introduce another young star in Clint Seymore. Seymore’s 6 points per game helped a bit and even though he is not a top scoring option LHS needed those points to be undefeated deep into December.
ZZ Clark (Ensworth)
Considering he established his name and game in Los Angeles, and the fact that his older brother Skyy is verbally committed to Kentucky, ZZ is very well-known. In his first high school game, ZZ scored eight points against a senior-laden Brentwood High squad.
“Last year, in my 8th grade year, I was the point guard,” shared @Ensworth_Hoops ZZ Clark. “I lead the team. This year with my big brother playing point, I am more of a scorer. As I get older, I am going to start going back to my point guard role.”

Colin Ayers (Cookeville)
Check his resume. Prescott Christmas Champion. Putnam County Champion. James C.Haile State Champion. Then he graduated middle school. Colin is second in scoring for Cookeville’s varsity with 11.8 points per game, 4.3 assists per game, and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Joshua Heard (Cookeville)
Heard is the leading scorer for Cookeville High, early in his career, contributing just under 13 ppg. Heard’s father starred for Tennessee Tech years back and just this fall ascended to Cookeville Head Coach last June. Heard racked up 25 points in their early December win over Pickett County. Heard’s strengths include outside shooting and the ability to draw fouls. Most importantly, Heard is adept at punishing teams for those fouls on him. Right now he shoots 79% from the free throw line. In that Pickett County win, Heard made 11-13 from the stripe.
Kris Hooker (Clarksburg)
Clarksburg High is just west of Natchez Trace State Park extremely outside any major metropolitan area and yet the Class A program features two stellar freshmen. You might remember Stefan Gilbert was featured earlier in this series and now it is time to take a glance at Kris Hooker. In CHS’ first seven games, Hooker pulled down 32 rebounds. His efforts on the glass enabled Gilbert to get extra looks at the halo.
