A sense of normalcy has come across the state and competition is as intense as ever, with some of the best talent across the country playing the Keystone State.
Prep Hoops has been on top of coverage throughout Pennsylvania and this article continues a multi-part series where PH is taking a look at junior standouts in the Mid-Penn Conference.
Christian Wilburn, PG Central Dauphin: Wilburn is an interesting player to watch this season for Central Dauphin, starting with his defense. He averaged 1.8 steals per game in 2019/20, a defensive stalwart for the Rams with a knack for creating havoc and turnovers. He plays with a high basketball IQ and he can speed up or slow down the game at his leisure it seems on offense, something that doesn’t show on the stat sheet. He plays with a strong sense of confidence, and that rubs off on his shooting. Wilburn can shoot it from anywhere on the floor and if he gets open, he’s pulling the trigger and knocking it down.
Andrew Renaldi, SG/PG Central Dauphin: Renaldi fits in well into Central Dauphin’s system, and despite being slightly undersized at his position, he really excels on the floor. One thing to point out is his shooting prowess, where he’s comfortable shooting with a player in his face and gets out on the break to free himself up for an opportunity on the perimeter. He boxes out really well on the block and starts up a fast break quickly, resulting in a lot of quick points for Central Dauphin. Watch how the Rams utilize Renaldi this season because he has a massive upside.
Noah Yeager, PF Chambersburg: Yeager needs to make the most of his size, especially in his position as a power forward. As a frontcourt option for Chambersburg, he has shown that he can shoot the basketball really well, excelling from beyond the arc. Yeager looks comfortable and confident shooting the three, which has definitely upped other parts of his game. will be utilized a lot down low as a shot blocker and an inside scorer, but the more Yeager gets used on the wing, the more he will draw bodies out to the perimeter, freeing up teammates on the block.
Grant Kuffa, SG/SF Cumberland Valley: Kuffa is going to be a dangerous scorer for Cumberland Valley this season, a stellar combination of speed, strength and shooting. He shoots the three well, opening up the floor to shoot more foul line elbow jumpers. He can also drive into the lane well and finishes strong. He uses his size well, especially in the paint. Kuffa shouldn’t exclusively rely on his outside game to carry him this season as he’s shown great potential in his inside game and is expected to grow in that part of his overall game this season.
Cade Penepacker, SF/PF Mifflin County: Penepacker has already impressed at Mifflin County and has shown multi-steal and multi-block potential. He is a vital part of the front court, a versatile forward who is a strong defensive presence. He plays aggressive on defense and makes himself bigger than his 6’1” frame, not getting backed down by the opposition. He’s meeting the shot at the apex and then starting the break down the other side of the floor. Penepacker will only improve this season and will be seeing much more impactful playing time.
