Today is National Signing Day for college football. On this day every year we release our All-Basketball Football Team. To be considered for this the player must be a ranked basketball prospect, but would make an outstanding football player. Here is our Defense!

Defensive End

[player_tooltip player_id="765160" first="Amar" last="Augillard"] (Zion Benton)

Augillard is a physical, athletic, and tough combo forward that is built like a college defensive end. Quick twitched, powerful, and has a relentless motor!

Defensive End

[player_tooltip player_id="771544" first="Christian" last="Meeks"] (Homewood Flossmoor)

Meeks is another high end motor player on the hardwood with physicality. That translates perfect to the defensive end position. Has speed to get to the QB and chase down running backs.

Defensive Tackle

[player_tooltip player_id="765185" first="Julian" last="Campbell"] (Palatine)

Campbell is a run stuffing defensive tackle that can take up blockers which allows his linebackers can clean up. Light on his feet and has good hands which translates to football as well.

Defensive Tackle

[player_tooltip player_id="920999" first="Daine" last="Hanson"] (Nazareth)

Hanson will play football in college at the power five level. The defensive lineman has been a post player that we have been fond of for a while as an underrated hoop player.

Outside Linebacker

[player_tooltip player_id="939073" first="Macaleab" last="Rich"] (East St. Louis)

Rich is from a football powerhouse East St. Louis. This 2023 will play basketball in college, but it is easy to picture what he could do on the gridiron. Strong and athletic build with the speed to chase down running backs and cover.

Middle Linebacker

[player_tooltip player_id="830601" first="Tevin" last="Smith"] (Danville)

Smith moves inside from last year’s squad to be the QB of our defense. He is a downhill thumper that will diagnose plays in the running game.

Outside Linebacker

[player_tooltip player_id="765148" first="Ahamad" last="Bynum"] (Simeon)

Bynum is a high-major hoops recruit that is a quick twitched athlete with enough strength to be effective as a run stuffing outside linebacker that can cover tight ends in pass coverage.

Cornerback

[player_tooltip player_id="925230" first="Zeke" last="Williams"] (Naperville North)

Williams is a rangy and athletic guard that is also a football prospect. You can see how his agility and fluidity would translate on the gridiron in the secondary.

Cornerback

[player_tooltip player_id="771517" first="Jaylen" last="Drane"] (Simeon)

Long and athletic corners are the rage in college football and that is exactly what we have in this top 10 junior hoops recruit.

Strong Safety

[player_tooltip player_id="863602" first="Jamauri" last="Winfrey"] (Peoria Richwoods)

Winfrey brings physicality on the hoops side which will translate well to the strong safety position at the college level being able to cover, help in the run game, and scare opponents from going over the middle.

Free Safety

[player_tooltip player_id="939050" first="Darrin" last="Ames"] (Kenwood)

Ames is the next great Mac Irvin Fire guard. A lot of those guards had the same qualities that fit the free safety position with their ability to cover ground and be playmakers.
