AJ Storr Talks Monster Summer & Fall on West Coast
The Illinois 2022 MVP from the Prep Hoops Circuit this past summer was AJ Storr AJ Storr 6'6" | SF IMG Academy post grad | 2022 State #119 Nation FL from the Illinois Hoopstars. The 6’6” wing exploded making huge steps in his game while playing on both the 17U and 16U levels.
Storr started out the summer as a 2021 prospect from Kankakee and finished the summer as a 2022 prospect from Bishop Gorman (NV) with a mid-major and high-major offers. Quite a bit changed in a short time span for this strong bodied wing. He played mostly on the Hoopstars Willis 17U squad. Was dominant as a three level scorer in every single event he participated in. Drilled threes at a high clip. We were amazed by his progress as a shooter from deep. Mixed in mid-range shots pulling up over the defense. Explosive finisher winning off the dribble with his strength, burst, and athleticism. Potential to be a plus defender at the next level as he was impactful on that end during the summer.
He spoke with us about blowing up on the Prep Hoops Circuit.
“That was a great experience. I got to play a lot of good teams over the summer and actually competing with them which gave me some confidence.”
Storr credits his growth as a ball handler for really elevating his game to new heights. Post summer he decided to make the move west to Bishop Gorman and reclass to 2022.
“I really reclassified to go back to my right grade because I just turned 17 on August 26. I went out of state to get more exposure and play against some of the best high school players in the country.”
So far so good as he had a dominant performance on ESPN along with shining in several other events.
“It has been great playing for Bishop Gorman and the events I have played in have been great also. It has given me many opportunities.”
On Wednesday it was announced by his travel team coach Julian Williams that he will be transferring to AZ Compass Prep with Las Vegas schools not playing this season. He currently holds offers from New Orleans, UIC, Ohio, Iona, Howard, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Austin Peay, IUPUI, and Chicago State. He also scored another high-major offer from his in-state program on Thanksgiving when Illinois offered.
Of those schools which ones are in the most communication at this stage?
“Virginia Tech, Howard, Ohio, and New Orleans.”
Storr mentioned several programs that have not offered quite yet, but are regularly speaking with him.
“Cincinnati, Tulsa, and Seton Hall.”
What is he looking for in a college program?
“A school that fits my play style and of course a great coach.”
