Last season, Dines was a major part of a Homedale team that far exceeded expectations and won a district title last season. In the upcoming season, Dines will look to help the Trojans return to the district title game and a shot at making a deep run at the state tournament. Continue reading for a breakdown of Jaxon’s game on both sides of the game ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Defense: Dines is a solid defender for Homedale. As a freshman last season, Dines was a key part of the rotation and held his own no matter who he was tasked with guarding. Against opposing guards, Jaxon keeps his man in front and does a great job of forcing guards into uncomfortable places on the court. He makes them pick up their dribble early in the offense and applies pressure to force them to pass the ball early in a set. Against bigs, Dines works to front and he fights hard to get around. He is a physical guard and does not back down from players that are bigger and stronger. He is a pesky defender that digs against the post and is always in a passing lane to steal the ball and start a fast break. When he chooses to rebound, Dines can grab a couple of boards a game on both ends of the floor.
Offense: Jaxon is a sharpshooter for the Trojans that routinely can knockdown a handful of triples per game. He is not afraid to take big shots and shoots the ball with the confidence of a veteran. Against smaller defenders, he uses a high release to get the ball over the top and he can easily drive to the basket and finish with either hand. He is a well-rounded offensive player that has the ability to score at all levels. He passes the ball extremely well and has great vision for a young player. On offense overall, Dines plays with a certain swagger and confidence as if he is entering his senior season. The upcoming years will provide a great opportunity for Dines to continue working on his game and expanding his abilities.
Overall: Altogether, Dines is a great basketball talent that will be an integral part of the Trojans’ roster for the upcoming years. Defensively, he plays hard and guards anyone. Offensively, he is a great shooter that is well-rounded. He would make an excellent 2 guard at the next level.
