So as a 6-foot-7 run-and-jump wing, Chapman could be at the head of every list, we’ll tip the cap to Chapman and focus on some other seniors who showed off their athleticism in Kansas City.
Guards:
Kobe McGowan, Olathe East:
The 5-foot-11 guard uses his speed/quickness combination to push the ball up the floor. He has good feel for getting off a runner in the lane. He has quick hands and feet to be a tough defender. And his crossover is effective because of his quick first step to get around a defender.
Rone Smith Rone Smith 5'11" | CG Wichita Southeast | 2021 State KS , Wichita Southeast:
Smith is an aggressive guard who brings a nice combination of quickness and size. At 6-foot, he can be tough on smaller guards. He has the quickness and length to be a presence on the glass and on defense.
Ty’ren Miller, Wichita Heights:
Miller is on the small side, but his quickness and fearlessness made him really tough to slow down on the drive at the Expo. He has the athleticism to get off tough shots on the move, making up for his 5-foot-10 frame.
Carter Reid Carter Reid 6'0" | SG Bishop Carrol | 2021 State KS , Carroll:
Reid always looks taller than the 6-foot he’s listed at. He is strong and athletic and seems to have a physicial advantage on most opposing guards. He plays the game at top speed on both offense and defense, making him a real pest to ball handlers and in the passing lane. He can leap and has a nose for loose balls. His versatility and athleticism make him a nice complement to the top-notch point guards he is routinely paired with.
Jahi Peppers Jahi Peppers 5'9" | CG Highland Park | 2021 State KS , Highland Park:
Peppers is a blur in the open court, which created tons of run-outs at the Expo. He has exhibited the ability to get to the goal for years at Highland Park, and he never seems to run out of steam. He looks small on the court, yet he finds ways to get shots off in the lane, demonstrating that he has a rare athleticism.
Wings/Posts:
Preston Reynolds Preston Reynolds 6'4" | CG Shawnee Mission East | 2021 State KS , Shawnee Mission East:
Reynolds has the kind of all-around game that you can only have if you bring some athleticism to the mix. He can leap and dunk, run the floor, body up in the lane and handle the ball all over the court. At 6-foot-4, he can appear somewhat lanky until he gets in battle. His power and physicality quickly shows up.
Patrick O’Neil Patrick O’Neil 6'5" | SF Olathe East | 2021 State KS , Olathe East:
For a 6-foot-5 guy, O’Neil moves remarkably well. He is an agile and smooth performer on the perimeter. He can handle the ball in the open court. But he brings the type of physical presence you like to see in the lane. He is strong going for rebounds and defending in the lane. But his athleticism allows him to make some impressively creative plays, including start-and-stop dribble moves and a nice fadeaway jump shot.
Ben Fritz Ben Fritz 6'5" | PF Blue Valley Northwest | 2021 State KS , Blue Valley Northwest:
Fritz looked a little like a man among boys at the Expo in Kansas City. He threw down some ridiculous dunks, running full steam past defenders with rare speed and power. At 6-foot-6, he is a load physically. You couldn’t blame defenders for shying away from trying to stop him on his way to the hole.
