With that in mind, here’s a look at the top duos in Class B:
Josh Dixon and Max Kobbervig Max Kobbervig 5'10" | PG Central Cass | 2021 State ND , Central Cass
Central Cass reached the Region 1 championship last year and while the Squirrels are losing three starters, the remaining two should keep them in the mix. Josh Dixon emerged as one of the best forwards in Class B last year, routinely producing 15-20 points thanks to an advanced low-post game and soft shooting touch. Kobbervig is one of the top 3-point shooters in the region and will have even more scoring responsibility as a senior after excelling as a complementary guy last season.
Colton Konschak and Kelby Azure, Hatton/Northwood
Konschak has been one of the better players in Region 2 each of the last two years, averaging better than 14 points per game for a Thunder team that was ranked in the top-10 most of the season. At 6-foot-5, he’ll have the keys this season and tasked with creating a lot of shots for himself and his teammates. His running mate, Azure, is one of the best low-post players in the region and provides a physical presence that not a lot of teams are equipped to deal with.
Simon Romfo Simon Romfo 6'1" | SG Langfond-Edmore-Munich | 2021 State ND and Grant Romfo Grant Romfo 6'1" | SF Langdon/Edmore/Munich | 2021 State ND , Langdon/Edmore/Munich
LEM was one of the top teams in Class B last year and while the Cardinals are losing four of their top seven guys, their two best guys were the Romfo brothers. Simon is a terrific facilitator and strong slasher while Grant is one of the top multi-level scorers in the region. Both guys get it done on both ends of the floor too, as they have the size and athleticism to guard just about anybody on the opposing team.
Noah Swenson Noah Swenson 6'5" | PF Oak Grove | 2021 State ND and Mason Martinson, Oak Grove
Region 1 is going to be a bear again next winter and even if Oak Grove lacks some of the high-end firepower, it’s got what should be a very good inside-outside duo in Swenson and Martinson. Swenson averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds as a junior, providing consistent offense every time out despite being the focal point of every opposing defense. Martinson enjoyed a solid junior season, averaging better than 10 points per game. He continued his upward ascension over the summer, playing well with the Pentagon Schoolers. If he can improve his efficiency, he’ll be one of the best lead guards in the region.
Lucas Schumacher Lucas Schumacher 6'2" | SG Linton | 2021 State ND and Carter Renz Carter Renz 6'3" | SF Linton/HMB | 2021 State ND , Linton/HMB
Schumacher might be the best player in what is stacking up to be a really good Region 3. He earned all-state honors last year, averaging nearly 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists. His influence on the game is as great as any individual player in the state and he’ll give the Lions a shot to win just about every time out. His running mate on the wing, Renz, has blossomed into a really solid player as well. The 6-foot-3 swingman can shoot it at a high level, get to the rim, make plays in secondary fashion and guard up or down an opposing lineup.
