One. Tanner TeSlaa is a Mid-Major Talent. Facing top teams from Minnesota and Illinois, Tanner continues to play at a high level. What separates him – and I think makes him a mid-major talent that will be choosing between Missouri Valley and Summit league options – is his ability at 6-foot-4 to play both guard spots. People get hung up on how good Tanner is with the ball playmaking but what’s also crucial here is Tanner’s ability to shoot the ball with a high consistency number. And he’s hitting clutch shots in the second half to win/extend games! Throw in his big time rebounding numbers as a guard/wing and we are all in! Averaged nearly 16 points and eight boards a game this weekend.
Two. Cael Lundin Cael Lundin 6'3" | SG Tea Area | 2022 State SD is Next. I believe that Cael is next up to receive scholarship options. The natural scoring feel/jumpshooting is at level that college coaches are going to pursue, and should be fighting for very soon. There is simply a different juice to Cael’s game, a confidence and work ethic that lets you know he is going to bring his game to such a high level as an upperclassmen. Averaged 14 a game against some very good Midwest teams.
Three. 11-5 Record. If you’ve been tracking the Venom you know that they have played some of the elite teams in the state’s of Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota (among others) all summer long. Many of the programs they have faced are shoe sponsored club teams and not only has the Venom held their own against those teams, they have represented the state of South Dakota well by defeating many of those teams.
Four. Tash Bash. Whenever Tash Lunday Tash Lunday 6'5" | PF Flandreau | 2022 State SD is on the court it’s a Tash Bash. Meaning anything could happen and everybody will enjoy it when it does. There are not many players that are consistently the stronger player on the court AND one of the most versatile players on the floor, but that’s Lunday. He averaged seven boards a game with 11-12 points a contest.
Five. Mikele at His Best! Check the video of Mikele Kambalo Mikele Kambalo 5'8" | PG Washington | 2022 State SD and notice the following:
- The hesitation move that freezes defenders followed by Kamabalo’s quickness to the rim attack
- The pretty touch on the feet set jumper. Usually a solid shooter.
- How he uses his left arm after the first step attack to keep his man at bay (under his control) while finishing off the possession.
- Uses the ball fake to shift his man followed by that quick first step.
- The one hand touch on the move is seen several times
