Championship Day at Clash of the Champions

<div class="gs"> <div class=""> <div id=":1t" class="ii gt"> <div id=":1u" class="a3s aXjCH " style="text-align: center; padding-left: 40px;"> Championship Day at the Clash of the Champions presented by Champions of Sports, continued the success from Day 1 with very exciting and action-packed games. The varsity level of the tournament consisted of teams from all over Texas. I got the chance to see some promising 2021 graduates that are about to enter their final high school season of basketball. Here we breakdown a few of those standout teams and players from Championship Day at Clash of Champions. Texas Swish Texas Swish was in full control in their final game, the whole team did a superb job of playing together and playing team defense; great help-side defenders, they cover space in a blink of an eye. Joshua Beall – Guard – Cedar Hill High School – C/o 2021<img class="size-medium wp-image-1024294 aligncenter" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/image3-1-225x300.jpeg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /> It didn’t take Beall much time to heat up in this one, he came ready to win. Joshua started knocking down shots from the get-go, everything was falling for him whether it was from his deadly pull-up or coming off a screen catching and shooting. A sweet jump shot, Joshua Beall’s game is like a mirror image of Bradley Beal’s style of play. I was already impressed by Joshua Beall prior to this day, but in this game, he really put me on notice with the way he played, he had a great game and outplayed everyone in the first half, and then went on to throw it down all second half. An efficient and proficient weekend for this young man. Jaden Robinson – Forward – International Leadership of Texas Arlington High School – C/o 2021<img class="size-medium wp-image-1024286 aligncenter" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/image2-1-225x300.jpeg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /> Jaden was another guy that came ready to win. He went to work offensively in the post, established position, and showed solid footwork on the block, he even displayed the ability to take the ball coast to coast and finish. Jaden Robinson’s best moment was when he threw down a mean two-handed slam where he dunked on 2 guys and had the rim and gym rocking. The F.I.R.M. A physically imposing team led by [player_tooltip player_id="887060" first="Marcell" last="McCreary"]. This team took home the 3rd place trophy thanks to their three athletic big men that dominated the post and the glass the entire game, along with a shooter that was always ready to shoot and always seemed to be open in the corner. [player_tooltip player_id="887060" first="Marcell" last="McCreary"] showed that he can do whatever is needed of him on the court. He got inside the paint to score and went after any rebound that came his way, he pushed the ball down the court in transition and passed the ball well, very unselfish, McCreary consistently looked to make the right play. Texas Takeover<img class="size-medium wp-image-1024392 aligncenter" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/IMG_2981-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /> Takeover saved their best game for last. The offense was running like a well-oiled engine, so good they had a 20 point lead at halftime of the championship game against Abilene Select. Takeover went on to pull off a 44-19 victory against a talented, competitive, well-coached team in Abilene Select. Erin Wright<a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prephoops.com/player/erin-wright/"><img class=" ls-is-cached lazyloaded" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/DSC_0140-150x150.jpg" data-src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/DSC_0140-150x150.jpg" /></a>– Guard – Dallas Carter High School – C/o 2021<img class="wp-image-1024397 aligncenter" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/IMG_2966-1-83x300.jpg" alt="" width="77" height="278" /> [player_tooltip player_id="959063" first="Erin" last="Wright"] came to play, he went out and did what he does best, get buckets. This man completely went off in first-half, Erin knocked down 3 of his first 4 shots from deep. So poised, calm, and under control that you wouldn’t think this was a championship game. Very efficient game, anytime he took a shot we all expected it to go in. In the second half of play, Abilene intensified their defense against Erin Wight, he wasn’t getting as many clean looks from deep as he did in the first half, so he proceeded to beat his man off the dribble and got to the rack where he either finished with a dunk, a layup, or got to the foul line, he just couldn’t be stopped. Wright ended the game with 20 points, went 6-6 from the free-throw line and, hit 4 three-point shots. I don’t think I ever saw or heard Erin Wight say a word, a flat out silent assassin. [player_tooltip player_id="887074" first="Antonio" last="Patterson"] – Guard/Forward – South Oak Cliff High School – C/o 2021<img class="size-medium wp-image-1024402 aligncenter" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/IMG_2966-3-81x300.jpg" alt="" width="81" height="300" /> Antonio was a flat out beast down low and on the boards. Patterson was committed to giving up nothing easy inside the paint, he defended the rim exceptionally well, even had a nasty block where he threw a shot off the glass. Looked like a man amongst boys out there, he got whatever he wanted when he wanted it. Antonio plays with good energy on the court, I never saw him flustered on frustrated and it seemed contagious; if a play didn’t go his team’s way they just went down tried to make it up on the opposite end. [player_tooltip player_id="887074" first="Antonio" last="Patterson"] is a unique prospect, he can do everything on the floor and play every position out there as well. [player_tooltip player_id="765910" first="Trey" last="Frazier"] – Small Forward – Newman International Academy C/o 2021<img class="size-medium wp-image-1024398 aligncenter" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/IMG_2966-2-71x300.jpg" alt="" width="71" height="300" /> Frazier was one of the best and most important players on the court in the championship game. From the tip-off, he was in attack mode on both ends of the floor. Trey controlled the boards all game, he went up high and hard to get the ball before anyone else even had a chance. He followed just about every shot to the rim and impacted the game by rebounding, Abilene Select couldn’t get any second chance shots with him around. When [player_tooltip player_id="765910" first="Trey" last="Frazier"] had the ball he got to his spots and made his mid-range pull-ups count. Abilene Select Abilene came out and played their style of basketball, they got several good looks but just couldn’t get shots to fall. They stepped up their play and played much better in the second half. Shots started to fall and the defense was at its best, forcing turnovers. Jalen McGee – Point Guard – Abilene High School – C/0 2021<img class=" wp-image-1024296 aligncenter" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/07/IMG_2963-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="190" height="253" /> Team leader Jalen McGee along with another valuable piece to this team came in hobbled. McGee tried to push through the injury as much as he could, even after knocking knees with the opposing defender. Playing hurt slowed him down just a bit, but didn’t phase him too much, he found a way to be effective, looking to create for his team and get them as many open looks as much as he could. D.J. Modest - Guard - Abilene High School - C/o 2021 D.J. understood the circumstances his team faced and he stepped up to the challenge. Right out the gate, Modest made his first shot from deep. He’s an incredible defender and hustle player, he ran and played every possession like it was his last. Even when losing by a wide margin, D.J. didn’t give up or slow down one bit.
