LEM was ranked for large stretches of the season and earned impressive wins at seemingly every turn. With three starters set to return, expectations should be high once again.
Go-To Guy: Grant Romfo Grant Romfo 6'1" | SF Langdon/Edmore/Munich | 2021 State ND
Romfo’s a decorated varsity regular as he’s averaged double-figures in scoring and earned all-region honors each of the last two seasons. He’s a big, strong, athletic wing who can fill it up from deep, get to the paint and finish in traffic. He consistently scored 15-20 points for a LEM team that had solid balance a year ago and he’ll have more on his plate as a senior.
Breakout Candidate: Jagger Worley
Worley’s been a quality rotation piece for the Cardinals but with several starters and key players graduating, he’ll have a big opportunity to step into an even bigger role as a senior. He’s an athletic, active wing who can shoot it and defend up or down a lineup. Expect him to be a consistent second or third scorer with the Romfo twins.
Question: Will depth be an issue?
LEM didn’t have a ton of depth last year as six or seven guys played consistent minutes, and the Cardinals still won 18 games including their district. But four of those guys are gone. Simon and Grant Romfo Grant Romfo 6'1" | SF Langdon/Edmore/Munich | 2021 State ND give them two high-enders, but what can they get from young or inexperienced guys? That could be the difference between a decent team, and one that challenges in Region 4.
Season Outlook
LEM will likely head into next season expected to contend in District 8 and while Four Winds/Minnewaukan will be the heavy favorite in Region 4, the Cardinals should be considered in the next-up mix. That aforementioned depth is certainly a question heading into the year, but LEM has an excellent trio to lean on. The Romfo twins are as good as any duo in Class B and set the tone on both ends of the floor for a team that has a relatively high floor – the ceiling will likely depend on how the newcomers adapt to varsity ball.
