Did you know that Esko has played or qualified to play in the section title game for the last nine seasons? That’s how good that program is.
This year seniors Eli Blue and Riley Fischer will be the top players moving Esko back towards their next section title game run. Blue is a dozen scoring a game lead guard with quick handles and great vision. Fischer is a 6-foot-4 wing that slashes for buckets and actively produces his dozen points a game.
Crosby Ironton seems to have these waves of talent that come at you for several years, there is a graduation and you get a bit of a chance, and then another one comes back at your a year or two later. The Rangers won 16 games last year led by sophomores Carsen Turk Carsen Turk 5'9" | PG Crosby-Ironton | 2022 State MN and Jordan Oehrlein Jordan Oehrlein 6'3" | PF Crosby-Ironton | 2022 MN who combined for 32 points a game last season. This pair will be juniors looking for 20 wins.
The second sub-section isn’t quite as stacked as the first sub-section but Virginia and Duluth Marshall are talented and should do battle for the top spot. Duluth Marshall has a junior-to-be in Jasper Timm that scored 13 a game last year with 6-7 boards a contest. Timm and the CI pair are the best 2022s in this section.
One of the top athletes in the section is senior-to-be Hunter Hannuksela. This 6-foot-4 forward has a 37 inch vertical bounce that will dunk on you and go about his day. Scored 24 a contest plus Hunter is a quality football prospect.
Moose Lake-Willow River will be a top 15 level team in Class AA next season with a chance to crack the top ten. Mason Olson Mason Olson 6'0" | SG Moose Lake/Willow Lake | 2021 State MN and Brady Watrin Brady Watrin 6'4" | SF Moose Lake/Willow Lake | 2021 State MN are both returning 20 point per game scorers. Olson is one of the best shooters in the state making over 42 percent of his threes the last two seasons. Watrin is 6-foot-3 and while he can score 20 a night, Brady is best known for being an elite defender. And watch your back, Brady will dunk it on your head.
Pierz knocked MLWR out of the playoffs last year earning 20 victories. They lost a couple starters but Michael Leidenfrost, a six foot wing, and Jonah Prokott Jonah Prokott 6'2" | SF Pierz | 2021 State MN , a 6-foot-2 wing. Michael is a slashing attack player with quickness. Jonah is a two time first team all league player that was as versatile as any player in the section.
Mason Carlson Mason Carlson 6'4" | SG Virginia | 2021 State MN is a top prospect from this section because of his skill and size in a lead guard spot. Carlson played lead guard at 6-foot-4 this year scoring 15 a game while also leading Virginia in assists. With Jayden Bernard Jayden Bernard 6'4" | SF Virginia | 2020 State MN moving on, Carlson will be a 20 point per game guy.
