Southwest Showdown All-Tourney 3rd Team

On the weekend of September 25th-26th I was able to visit La Joya High School and ASC Avondale for the second annual Southwest Showdown. It contained plenty of teams from the west valley with solid talent across the board. I viewed multiple teams and games throughout both days and was able to put together 5 tournament teams of 6 players each. The teams are based off of the games and teams I saw. I was not able to view every team due to multiple games being played at once. 3rd Team Jacai is a speedy scoring guard that can get going in a hurry. He can score from all over the court and has a array of one on one moves to get by defenders. He will use his speed and handle to breakdown defenders or use a change of pace to to freeze defenders. He has a smooth jumper and can hit it in the midrange to three. He is tough to stop in the open floor and likes to play fast. He will sneak up shots over bigger defenders or finish with finesse. Carmine is a fast pass first point guard that can lead a high tempo offense. He will come back to the ball for a fast outlet and push the pace looking to take advantage of easy buckets. He is a very willing passer and will advanced the ball up the sideline when they have numbers. He can also slow it down and set up in the half court when nothing is available on the break. He can handle tough ball pressure and has a quick first step that allows him to create for himself. Carmine has the ability to have a very strong year for Westview. Jaishon is a do all guy for the Scorpions and has no problem doing the dirty work. He brings a physical presence on both ends off the floor especially on the glass. He will battle with bigger guys and give the scorpions extra possessions. He had multiple offensive rebounds leading to and-1 finishes. Jaishon can also get down hill and create contact and finish strong by the bucket. He is a tough hard nose defender and can take space away from players making them uncomfortable. Thiago is a quick and shifty guard with a nice shot from the outside. He has the ability to play on and off ball that makes him versatile. He can run the offense and setup others with his vision by breaking down defenders and drawing help. He will also spot up off ball and hit the three at a high clip. He is a sneaky athlete and can finish by the rim despite his size. He has great hands on defense and will anticipate passing lanes leading to steals. Thiago can have a breakout year for the Panthers. Isaac is a crafty and high IQ scorer for the mustangs. Isaac is a good size guard with a smooth stroke from the three. He is able to hit the three off the dribble and the catch. Isaac will then counter with a pump fake and finish at the rim. He has sneaky athleticism and plays strong by the rim finishing through contact. He flows well in the offense and doesn't need the ball to score. Jamariante is a newcomer to Arizona and will turn some heads with the Lobos. He is a quick and shifty guard that plays with a good pace. He is able to handle pressure and keep the defense off of him enough to initiate the offense. He will blow by defenders that are to close and slice through the lane to finish with finesse by the rim. He has a solid shot from the outside and will hit the open three at a solid clip. He will be a big part in the Lobos success this year.
