Pumas Fall League: Standouts

The final week of the Pumas Fall League regular season was this weekend as teams are looking to position themselves for the tournament next weekend. In this article I'll spotlight six standouts I caught.

Deere worked hard on Saturday morning with multiple putback layups including a tip in. Also scoring as roll man with layups and mid-range touch shots after setting screens to open up space for his guard or draw a second defender away from him. Deere stayed in the back against full court pressure was a play finisher after the guards broke the press and did this consistently to score. Jumped multiple passing lanes defensively to create turnovers as well.

A natural perimeter scorer, Sweet knocked down some in rhythm pull-up jumpers and plays on balance on the perimeter. Split the defense off the dribble layup finish through a contest. Jonathan Alder prospects have been showing out in the Pumas Fall League and they should once again be the favorites in the CBC this winter.

Joseph is arguably the top rim protector in the league, swatting away everything in his area in the paint. Joseph even had a block that went off the offensive players head after swatting it to give the ball back to his team. Joseph even stretched out to the perimeter to block 3-point shots, a true difference maker on the defensive end of the court. I'd expect big things this winter for Joseph as his rim protection is rare to find.

A smaller point guard, Armstrong first got on my radar this morning with a quick drive and score. At his height, it's essential to be quick on the ball to get around your primary defender and Armstrong showed that ability. Finishing through contact with an and-1 layup finish, Armstrong was not afraid to go up against length in the paint. Impressive performance by a guard who could continue to make some noise this winter for New Albany this winter

I liked the frame of Bray as a physical two way wing. Playing through contact with an early baseline drive and score, Bray wanted to get to the rim whenever he caught the ball. Bray did a nice job mixing up his finishes at the rim with a scoop layup before the defense could rotate to block his shot. With a slow release on jumper, Bray could become even tougher to defend if he can consistently show the ability to space the floor. With a couple putback layups thanks to his height and strength, Bray had a strong overall performance this morning.

Barber was a crafty finisher in the paint who moved well without the ball to get open and his teammates did a nice job finding him when he was open to set him up in positions to score. Barber had a nice step through lefty finish and knocked down a pick and pop 3-pointer. I thought Barber took smart shots throughout the game and played within his abilities during the contest.
