CBG JUCO Prep Showdown Standouts Pt.1

The CBG x Assist Juco Prep Showdown was another successful event once again. There were college coaches from all levels in attendance from all over the country. Many teams from all over the country came and competed under one roof; we wanted to highlight some of the top under-the-radar guys who stood out at the event.

[player_tooltip player_id='3275771' first='Jovin' last='Johnson'] is now a 2028 prospect who continues to show why he's one of the top 2028 prospects in the region. He played for the CBG Premier team and averaged 22 PPG and 10 RPG over the weekend, helping his team go 3-1 and compete at a high level against some very talented teams. Jovin has a strong feel of when to attack the rim off the dribble or when to use his size and score in the post, Jovin scored often in transition, and also knocked down multiple 3 pointers on the weekend displaying he can score from all three levels. He can defend any position and can alter shots around the rim but has really improved as a switchable defender being able to guard 1-5 effectively and shut down the opposing teams best player.

RJ is a 6'4-6'5 Guard who transferred to S3 Academy and is the program's lead guard; he excels at controlling the pace and tempo of the game, getting to his spots to score, and creating for others. What stood out to me most about his game and the growth I've seen is his ability to score in any fashion, whether it's attacking off the bounce, in the pick-and-roll, or knocking down the three at a high rate. RJ is poised for a breakout Junior year as a major piece for the Panthers.

[player_tooltip player_id='3659463' first='Dizru' last='Utah'] is a Swiss Army knife that excels in so many different areas; he recently transferred to St. Christopher's, and it's easy to see the value he brings to their squad. He shot it well from beyond the arc, did an excellent job scoring off the dribble, and scoring around the rim. Dizru is an elite defender with his size, athleticism, and length, which he uses to his advantage to deter opposing teams. He is a matchup nightmare who can hurt opposing guards with his size or beat bigs off the dribble with his speed and athleticism. He will be a name you'll hear often moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898019' first='Chase' last='Johnson'] is a quick and shifty guard for Landstown High School who excels with the ball in his hands. He is a pass-first point guard who does an excellent job using ball screens effectively to get downhill and to get 2 feet in the paint. He does a great job attacking off the bounce, scoring off the catch, or simply knocking down the open jumpers. Chase is someone I continue to be more and more impressed with each time I see him play. Chase is among the top Point Guards available in the 2027 class in the 757 area, as he simply knows how to make everyone around him better.

[player_tooltip player_id='3275793' first='Obi' last='Pinn'] was lights out on the weekend and showed he can be a great combo guard at the next level. He had a strong summer with [program_tooltip program_id='3424568' first='Team' last='Loaded Gold'] and showed he is able to compete against some of the best. Obi is a high-IQ, quick, and decisive guard who can score in bunches or create for others. He is a great on-ball defender and has added more muscle to his frame, making him a college-ready Point Guard. He has a fluid shooting stroke that is hard to contest because when he has space, he can light it up in a hurry. He finished well around the rim on the weekend and finished well through contact. He will be a player in the 2028 class that college coaches will want to check out moving forward.
