The Brick League: Standouts

I attended The Brick League at Fieldhouse USA on Saturday and in this article I'll break down my standouts I caught from the afternoon of action.

I was really impressed with Massey as he had some big plays with breakaway dunks off two feet, showing off his explosiveness as a vertical athlete and sudden movements. Massey moves like an athlete in the open court and can explode through the air. With a spring in his step, Massey was tough to stop when he got to the rim. A new name I'll be keeping an eye on in central Ohio, Massey could be a nice new name at the varsity level for Pickerington Central this winter.

The first of two Central Crossing products to stand out for their team, Gober was a bigger lefty ball handler who did a nice job creating off the dribble. Gober had some scoop layups and running finishes when attacking the rim. Gober also had the confidence to handle the basketball vs pressure and make perimeter shots, displaying an all-around offensive performance.

I really enjoyed watching Sy as he just knew how to play and did a great job moving without the ball and keeping the game simple. Sy wasn't the most talented player on the court but he found ways to impact the game with his basketball IQ, vision, quick hands defensively and efficiency thanks to his shot selection. Sy did a great job doing things that require no talent and his contributions led to a nice win on Saturday afternoon.

Thompson really caught my eye with his relentless driving style that featured attacks at the rim whenever he caught the ball. Thompson started the game with a step through layup and had a nice floater shortly after. His highlight of the day came off a steal when he raced down the court and threw down a monster dunk off one foot as the defense was chasing him. I really liked Thompson's energy on the court and when the game starts to slow down for him he has the motor and athleticism to be an impact player down the road.

A strong performance from Clark as he scored early and often in the game I caught. From the wing, Clark attacked closeouts with quick dribble moves and hit some tough shots off the bounce. Clark also had a euro-step finish and inside hand finish at the rim, showing his ability to score in the paint as well. One of the more complete offensive players I've seen in his division of the brick league, Clark is a talented player from Pickaway county.
